On a more realistical note: If protecting themselves really is CDProject's only interest, why don't they release the name under a Creative Commons license now, thereby making sure that no one can use it against them, while enabling anyone's usage?
Their lawyer is probably against it *shrugs*
Or maybe they just want to retrain the option to go against someone who might actually try to profit from cheap copy of their game.

In my opinion it's a wrong decision by the responsible departments (and law makers, obviously) to even grant anyone such rights.
In a world full of assholes who do anything to maximize their profit and a system where you can claim the rights to rounded corners as a design, I'm not in the slightest suprised that you can get away with basically everything.

Try learning Shadowrun's slang. More or less like learning a new language.

"Hey chummer. Let's go geek that fragface"

Doesn't sound so useful to me. I rarely got the rassoodock to tolchock any droogs these days. I'll rather itty to the Corova bar and peet a dobby Moloko Plus. :droog:

posting material with incorrect aspect ratio should be a felony.

There's probably a petition for that.

You know, it's not that the actual picture is in the wrong aspect ratio, it's the forum that resizes it. If you click on it, it'll show up normal.

Nontheless, I resized it so the forum doesn't need to work its evil ways. There you go...

hmmh, edited your post and changed the dimensions so the aspect ratio would be correct.

maybe this is something K should have a look at?

The forum guesses the dimensions wrong and then adds false size attributes.
I'm not sure why it does that at all (possibly to display a broken image frame if the image doesn't load) but it usually works. There may be something quirky with that image, ie it may report its dimensions incorrectly.

If it happens more often I'll look into it.

RPS: "CD Projekt Red blackmailed with Cyberpunk 2077 files"
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/06/08/cd-projekt-red-blackmailed-with-cyberpunk-2077-files/

From the comment section:
The idea of hackers ransoming a company for its stolen files is pretty dang cyberpunk. CDPR should send some chromed up street samurais after them.

Who would ever be so stupid as to pay ransom for a video game design document? That's like blackmailing a film studio for five pages of the first draft of some movie. It's practically worthless.

I got your post right here before me, Marv. Better pay up or there's going to be so much quoting.

Baseless assumption that is nonetheless probably right:

this is PR/advertising. Everything's an ad these days. What hacker/s (typically smart) would blackmail over some fucking design docs (really, really dumb and pointless incrimination risk with no reward).

Fuck you AAA Pubs and your shitty fake news and slimy PR departments. I mean it's genius, this simply can't be challenged due to the concept of "unknown hackers", but just fuck all of everything to do with AAA game dev. I tire of the constant controversy manufacturing, pandering statements and fake news.

The PR money saved by such a stunt is orders of magnitude below the amount of damage said stunt would cause if it were revealed to be one. The game is ~1.5 years away from release, there's no need to pull any shenanigans at this point.

Sure there is. Steady build up of public awareness. Any news is good news and every little helps. It's incredibly cheaper than making another trailer akin to, what year was it, the 2013 announcement one...
Heck, they don't even have to post some screenshots, concept art, gameplay footage or anything of that sort. Just make up some bullshit story and the depraved and deprived gaming audience & press eat it up.

Well I remember when GOG said they were shutting down - as a PR stunt.
They have said repeatedly that this was an extremely dumb decision, that it might have brought them a lot of awareness but that they would not try such a thing again.

@JU: E3 is at the doorstep, it's not like they have a lack of news distribution channels.

My spidey sense is tingeling but we don't really know anything for sure. Their story might just be true. I don't really care either way. I certainly don't like being lied to but mostly I just want the game to be good and successful  enough to get more in the future.

Well, we can't get the malfunctioning turrets off line and now Xerxes isn't even talking to us.
