When I try to open the Command 1\2 maps from 0.30 in Shocked, the program crashes. Is it normal? I mean, should it be possible or I just don't have all the authorizations.

you should be able to open them. zip crash.dmp and shock2.log, upload to mediafire or sendspace, and post the link.

I don't have that crash dump file, but my log reads:

> resimage.cpp(  82): Assertion Failure: Unable to open stream: COM6
> resimage.cpp(  82):     Going to debugger...

When the loading crashes, it prompts me with "Unable to open stream: COM6 (file: resimage.cpp, line: 82)"

com error? hmm, try installing SHTUP.

I split off the discussion from the ADaoB thread and moved it here.

There's a standalone fix just for that issue. I thought ADaOB incorporated it.

I'm applying the SS2tool right now, but may I ask what part of it is fixing this issue? One of the GOG patch fixes? Having Newdark?

no, it's an old fix, it just makes sure two texure files are loaded properly I believe.

Yeah, default SS2 uses Com6.pcx and Com8.pcx (iirc) to texture the elevator signs in the command elevator, and COM* filenames are reserved in WinNT based operating systems. It wasn't a problem when SS2 was released because those filenames are not reserved in win98.

I installed SS2Tool and the issue was solved, but then I added ADaoB and it returned. I think it's about installation folders:

- Game folder is C:\SS2\
- Installed Shocked in there: all the files from the root in Shocked Basic + those from the Shocked 2.12 folder from Tools
- Installed ADaoB in DataPermMods

If I load Medsci1 from Datapermmodsm, it doesn't have the Shemp textures, and its gamesys is from Data\. So I moved everything ADaob to Data. Now Command 1 and 2 cause crashes, just like before adding SS2Tool.

I wasn't clear about something: now, my \Data\ has all the ADaoB files inside (overwriting the previous) and loading Medsci1 works perfectly (with gamesys too). My \Datapermmods is empty.

yeah, that is something you shouldn't do.

-install SS2
-patch it with the tool
-install ADaoB into DataPermMods
-install Shocked Toolkit

done.

I had already done that, but I've done so again for clarity purposes. The result is that my Shocked doesn't load ADaoB levels properly from DataPermMods (they have pinks instead of Shemp screens, and the gamesys is from Data). My ADaoB Command 1\2 crash too, vanilla don't.

But I literally reinstalled this thing twenty times, so it will just have to make do as it is...

using the latest NewDark Shocked?

Shocked 2.12 from Shoced basic 1.10.

Once I have edited all ADaoB maps but Command 1\2, I'll give it another shot.

there are times when I wish I had a third hand, as sometimes, a double facepalm is not enough. oldDark Shocked? seriously? I'm going to back away from this topic until you update to NewDark/Shocked 2.42.

Actually I made it clear that I wasn't using NewDark.

must have skipped that, but actually does not matter. update, and the problem will be solved.

It's all right, I was able to resume work on my project. I really should have done this 10 years ago.
