I've been thinking about making a short demo, with a "PT" version of MedSci. Which uses different versions of the level, as seen in the tears. Something like this:

1) Vanilla scenario, you leave the cryotube and enter the decompression event. Girl runs and is killed by a hybrid. You drop down the chute to the battery puzzle, but are returned to the cryotube. Repeats once.

2) There's a new corpse on the way, with a pistol. The loop continues until you kill the hybrid chasing the girl.

3) Now you start the sequence locked in the cryotube, which you smash with the wrench. The keypad door is open, but dropping down the chute just resets the loop. You have to pick up a code from logs over several loops, to input in the keypad and unlock the next transition.

4) There's a barrier covering the chute, and the door to the east side of MedSci1 is open. Red lights, black manyn eggs everywhere.

Mod looks amazing. I just finished HL1, so I should be able to quickly move on to HL2 if nothing comes up.

It will be released soon, just need to fix a couple of bothersome bugs that popped up right at the end!

This addon enables movie subtitles in the vanilla System Shock 2. They show up just like in Infinite: plain text on the lower black border.

Your movie subtitles addon for vanilla SS2 is buried within the SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0 thread. As a result, I suspect that some members and many guests to this site, that may be interested in adding this to their SS2 install, may not be aware of its existence. I suggest that you add this to the "SS2 Modifications" section, as a separate individual mod. This will make it easier to find and give it the fullest public exposure.

You are right, I will make a new entry as soon as I'm done fixing the HL2 mod! Sorry for the delay, I've had your log corrections ready for a month.  :headshot:

WHAT !  :stroke: . . . . . a whole month  O_o . . . . . That's fine, you're a busy guy. Its highlight is deciphering and making known Delacroix's almost indiscernible warning message. It deserves due recognition, as a welcomed addon to SS2.

I seen videos, here to, that the mod is played from the begining of the game really. Why ?

The mod was born as a New Game Plus mode: after the final showdown against Shodan, you would return to the beginning of the game on a second quest. Now it is no longer necessary to beat the game first: you spar with Shodan in a short intro, then immediately get thrown back in time to change history.

I'm almost done with the patch, all that is left to implement is the improved OS Upgrades and testing the german translation myself. All done with the 4 months worth of bug reports, instead! O_o I've got to thank System Shocked, Haios, UNN Atropos and Vegoraptor for this one.

I'm also thinking of making an addon, either based on playing as Marie or in a PT-like extension. The latter is particularly intruiguing: imagine playing a free roaming version of Infinite, without Polito and Shodan directing you, and when you access a tear... time rewinds and you back to MedSci. With all your skills, modules and nanites but no items: you have to re-equip yourself and go back to the quest. I believe the item management would become glorious... but the game legth would skyrocket incredibly.

I actually like the current 'many' tear text. 'Free the Many from Korenshkin's control.'

I like the idea of having to rewind. Oh shit you're suddenly at an impassable spot. Gotta hurl yourself into the mystery tear.

Here's the current plan for the OS Upgrades:

Environmental Resistance
Provides immunity to all radiation and toxins.

Pharmo-Friendly
Receive an extra 20% benefit from all hypos

Exoskeleton
Grants 20% damage reduction and 3 extra inventory slots.

Velocity Modulator
Increases speed by 20% and grants immunity to fall damage.

Sharpshooter
Ranged weapons deal 15% more damage.

Security Expert
Disabling security also shuts down any security robot.

Cybernetically Enhanced
Allows the use of two different implants at once.

Synthetic Heart
Increases hit points by 15.

Lethal Weapon
Melee weapons deal 35% more damage.

Neuromancer
No time limit in Cyberspace and bonus to hacking against security terminals.

Charged Strike
Melee attacks can be charged for 100% more damage.

Scavenger
You recover additional items from defeated enemies.

Replicator Expert
Replicator prices lowered by 20%.

Blast Proof
Grants immunity to psionic burnout and splash damage from heavy weapons.

Handyman
Damaged recharge stations no longer explode when used.

Mnemonic
Subconsciouly implements any unrecovered memories.

I actually like the current 'many' tear text. 'Free the Many from Korenshkin's control.'

I like the idea of having to rewind. Oh shit you're suddenly at an impassable spot. Gotta hurl yourself into the mystery tear.

All right... Let's change it to: "Side with the Many against Shodan".

Re: SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0

The idea of making the objectively useless crap OS upgrades viable in their own rights pleases me since that means we have more than two or three 'builds' that will work. After all the whole point of shock2 is Your Choices. No idea how this will work in playtesting, but it'll be INTERESTING.

Any chance at having the OS upgrades as a separate independent mod that can be tacked on? Yes I know it breaks things but the idea amuses me of going through ponterbee with these new options.
Re: SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0
6740ef8e74c44
All new talents have  been implemented, save for Charged Strikes and Scavenger. I will deal with those tomorrow, they are the easiest to make. I kind of felt bad about this patch, because I thought that the promised new OS Upgrades would have been just a couple different settings: now that we have this variety, I'm happy I waited a bit to research.

Hikari: it should be possible, but we'll have to check that Blast Proof and Velocity Modulator don't make you immune to some kind of enemy attack too, as the damage types they grant immunity to were used differently in vanilla.
Re: SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0

Have sent you my commentary on any further tweaks you might want to make. However it's more 'I am noticing these things' rather than any inherent problems. Right now they make a lot more interesting/attractive options beyond 'MOAR DAMAGE' builds.

Trying to think of anything else that might be done as a quick 'could be done in under a month' build and I dunno.

Getting a 'post game' mode that unlocks after the ending where you're allowed to wander the von braun with the occasional thing to have to fight, maybe but mostly as a free-roam all doors including the ones you need heavy weapons or hacking open.

And I dunno if that's a doable thing.

Yes, maybe this is the right time to make that "Peaceful Von Braun Tour" mod! But I want to push out this patch, now, any new element will have to wait for the next update. Which is supposed to be either a new addon or an alternate gamemode... tell me what you think:

Title
- System Shock Infinite: Shattered Memories if it's an addon;
- System Shock Infinite: The Director's Cut if it's an alternate full release.

Free roaming an impact on the story
- You can move freely from Medsci up to the last level.
- As usual, Polito asks you to meet her on deck 4. But if you do, a Hacker Ending variant starts.
- Polito's office turns into Cyberspace where you have to perform high level hacks.
- If you can't, you get a recut Paradox Ending with Goggles submitting.
- Instead if you disobey Polito's orders to meet with her, Shodan starts taunting you as you make your way to her.

Peaceful Von Braun Tour
- The first time you set foot on the Von Braun, it's in peaceful tour mode.
- You can't use cybermodule boxes or OS Upgrades, they're transparent, same for the door to the upper Rickenbacker.
- You are supposed to either go to Polito and get mauled, or enter a tear.
- When Shodan taunts you, Goggles-type cyborgs might sneak up on you (note: you have wrench and pistol).

Tears and Ages
- When you enter a tear, you don't just bring back "Marie's Medsci": you enter the Marie Age.
- I.e. Marie's Age is the full Von Braun in Marie mode.
- Every age is pristine with enemies and items. It only removes "used" cutscenes, modules and OS Machines.

PT Reboots
- Whenever you enter a tear, you must solve a PT-styled puzzle in an repeating instance of Medsci 1.
- Entering a tear removes all your items, but not cybermodules or nanites (nor skills).
- Every time it repeats you become more transparent, until you die.
- I already designed the 8 puzzles.
- If you win, you enter the selected Age. Your goal is now to re-equip yourself enough to enter the next tear.
- Shephard's kill memories play at the end of the PT puzzles, he just contains an infinite memory chip to read.

The line where SHODAN finally decides she's had enough:
'I Rexamine my priorities... and draw New Conclusions. We will not meet again. Irritant.'

Any chance you can have the cryotubes all full and explode, freeing the goggles-esque yellow uniform cyborgs inside to start hunting you?
Re: SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0
6740ef8e75310
Note sure about the details, but having the goggleborgs inside of the cryotubes in Shephard's Age should be good.  :thumb:
Re: SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0

Design Suggestion. Grey out their skin a bit more and make the Goggle/lenses brighter red to help distinguish at a glance?

Pity at how limited we are in possible enemies. Ah well.
Re: SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0
6740ef8e75582
The normal cyborgs I prepared don't have the goggles, but I would use a proper white\frozen Goggles model for those in the cryotubes.

edit
Also, Remote Circuitry Manipulation is being replaced by a mass slowdown effect:

Entropic Tide
Slows down organic and mechanical targets in a 50 feet radius.
The effect is permanent. Ineffective against psionic creatures.

I'm a bit under the weather today, so I'll leave the death march into full spectrum testing for later.
Here's the beta file, if anyone ekse wants to contribute!

Patch 2.4 beta: https://db.tt/Ir1CalKR (27 megabytes)
If you join the testing, try to spearhead to the new content because that's where bugs might be. The German translation is 90% complete.

So far so good outside of graphical glitches that have been in place since the beginning (pictures in hud half cut off and at the edges of he screen.)I have integrated intel on dated hardware so eh.

I LIKE scavenger. The mnemonic option is letting me a bit more adventurous in my choices since no matter what I do or don't do I can still get the mega ending. Sure it will cost an OS upgrade, but still worthwhile.

So many options right now.
Re: SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0
6740ef8e75ecb
I updated the patch with a new feature: Cyberspace timeovers are now deadly. The timer starts showing the word "DEATH" when you have 2 minutes left and then a short cutscene plays (in Cyberspace 6, it's 4 minutes).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHBwi8RO7_M

I did this in anticipation to the PT addon, where tears too will become dangerous.

Re: SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0
6740ef8e76003
I maintain that this should only be for the higher difficulties. Or at a minimum leave 'normal' difficulty where if you fail it kicks you out.

On the other hand this would give a new reason taking the security expert upgrade might be worthwhile.
