Re: SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0

I transferred over my Beta 7 Saves to the Beta 8 folder, and I noticed that the subtitles for the Hacker & Paradox endings are now wrong; they play the subtitles for the old versions of those cutscenes rather than the new ones.
I like the new Hacker Ending, but I miss the bit with Marie and the bridge. Do you think it should be tagged on the end to give a sense of closure?
I still don't understand the paradox ending at all. Is it like, by killing himself in a time paradox, Goggles ceases to exist, so Marie and Shepard and their buddies stop the robot uprising themselves?
Another thing I noticed from Beta 7 that I didn't mention before, is that if you choose Marie in the Hydroponics tear, she says Marie prevented the experiments on the nurses from ever happening. And yet, Hydroponics is still crawling with Cyborg Midwives!
Also in Beta 7, the Rechargers blew up every time I used them. Was that so the player would be more conservative when using Energy Weapons because their ammunition would otherwise be limitless? And are those blowouts and the enemies' specific damage susceptibilities removed by the 2015 mod?

Damn, I forgot. :headshot: I'll fix it in the next patch.

I moved that part in this vision:

Is that the one, where at the end Marie talks to you in the capsule? That's Marie's End, you get it by entering all Marie tears. It's a prequel, shows you how ghostly Marie appeared.

And yet, Hydroponics is still crawling with Cyborg Midwives!

It's a cool idea, I should be able to implement it! :thumb: Marie's message was intended to be something that happened earlier, so the situation might have changed slightly by now: but this detail is right.

energy weapons and 2015 mode

It's a way to limit their ammo. Notice that you can buy batteries from most replicators, and the tier 3 psi power can still recharge them.

In 2015 Mode, enemies die faster and there's less difference between using the right or wrong weapons. Let me get my data...

Pipe Hybrid
Beta 7: 2 bullets, 8 lasers
Beta 8: 2 bullets, 6 lasers
2015 Mode: 1 bullet, 3 lasers

When I said paradox ending, I meant stinger_ops2.avi. Isn't that the movie that plays when you kill your Deck 4 doppleganger?

Here's the right subtitles files here, I'm reuploading the Beta 8 with these and a fix for that particular doppleganger. I placed the new laser pistols, but I think it was either a random bug or something about the map it happened into. Sorry man, yesterday I had lost some progress in a crash and it made these bugs: consider this is your purple star of betatesting. (updated with new laser fix)

How much got lost in the crash?

I had just backuped a bugfix session and overwrote the files to go back to film a video, when I got a bad blue screen. The next day, when I got back to bugfixing, the files of the backup were unreadable. Many saints of the catholic church came down from their place on the calendar, afterwards.

The bugfixes included changing model\lightning\trasparency\voice\sounds\name\title on 15 npcs, half a dozen bugfixes from UNN Atropos's findings, fixes on a good 50 gamesys copies, subtitles for 4 movies and some sparse edits which I can't remember well (and Mirrorman found).
Re: SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0

I'll be reuploading the main file on Moddb (it takes hours...), to include the subtitles fix and some recut dialogues for Diego & Marie. There's a stinger video I have to update, the plan is to set it in space at zero G! :D

Mirrorman: done, now the Hydroponics from Marie's timeline has no midwives.

edit I've been trying all day to reupload the main file to moddb, but the process would always die at some point.  :(

I still have to update that short video with the SS1 Diego logs. But I hit the writer's block, so I sat back and enjoed some experimentation.

Here's the penultimate video. It was supposed to replace one of the stingers, the short one with an alternate Goggles reciting a log by SS1 Diego, but now it's big enough to be a full feature memory.

The plan was to make it completely different from the original, following a sidestory about what happened to Tommy and Rebecca-dan on the shuttle, but the idea was scrapped (if you're wondering, he was to eject her into space). :kekeke: So now we're back to Diego: father against son.

I like how you embedded all the soundfiles and videobits from System Shock 1, it rounds up very well.
Is the überlarge Diego a reference to Sark from Tron? Also, I recognized some architecture from fan missions, but which one has the statue?
Small nitpick: at about 02:07 the wireframe Diego has a strangly bouncing crotch.

I wish I could unsee it! :P The cyber Diego would be Bioshock 1's last boss, and is either a cyber recording which survived Citadel or a projection of Captain Diego's fears. The map "Ship3" is the one with the lobby, staircase and statue rooms in the 2nd flashback. I'm considering adding passages from the Von Braun to limited areas of some old FMs.

The next patch will contain a playable version of the stage seen in the Hacker End, which follows up afterwards. You can see it in action at 1m33s:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM7WiO5bS3w

Now I just need to finish the last movie to make 2.0 complete. However I would still like to hear from some playtesters...  :what: Last time I've been suggested to make the Shuttle quest of Command available from the start: so you can either take the tram to Command 2, or go to the Shuttles.

Re: SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0

I just finished this and I have a couple of complaints, and am confused about a couple of things.
For starters, I did enjoy the complete rehash of the story, the whole time warp thing was pretty cool but everything got so convoluted over time that I had no idea what was really going on. The difficulty was excessive, even on "Easy", and the whole thing of constantly having to switch between weapons in order to deal with multiple enemies of different types, got to be a real pain, although, it's still a cool idea.
I didn't understand the purpose of those chips/circuitboards you picked up from your various alternate reality corpses/enemies, what were those for? I also didn't understand the three different rooms in the cyberspace sequences. I always chose the ones with Delacroix in them. Does the story ending change if you choose to exit cyberspace via the other rooms like the Korenchkin rooms? It seems like Goggles submits to The Many if you choose those. And the rooms with Goggles and Shepard were just confusing, I had know idea what those were about.
Also, I actually play SS2 from an original, store-bought factory CD from back in the day so maybe some of those things I don't understand are tied into Steam's achievement system and that's it? I don't know.
Finally, I always play the game on 1440x900 resolution, but using this res causes the incoming video messages to be cut off on the left and right sides by nearly 90%. I had to switch to 1280x768 or lower res in order for the video emails to be properly oriented on the screen but then I had to deal with letterbox bars or squished graphics.
Good work though, clearly this took a lot of effort and time to do.

CruelCahal: thanks for your report! I think you might have liked 2015 Mode on one of the higher difficulties: it was made for a player who had trouble with weapon switching, but no actual concerns about difficulty - things like managing ammo and modules. I'm currently looking into a way to replace Easy difficulty with 2015: would you have used it, that way?

chips and story

If you collect them all, you get Sarah's ending... which is still being filmed. I'm thinking of making a computer room where you can use them, to unlock a coherent timeline of the story for better understanding.

I always chose the ones with Delacroix in them. Does the story ending change if you choose to exit cyberspace via the other rooms

Yes, the dialogues you hear in the other rooms are a preview of what will happen. They also give you different loot and getting them all unlocks their special ending (check the Cutscenes folder). In example, Goggles doesn't join the Many but he frees them from Korenchkin.

It's decided, the difficulty settings in the New Game menu now appear as such:

1) Normal, with -50% enemy health
2) Hard, with -20%
3) Expert, with -10%
4) Infinite, unchanged

May the Gods of Kobol have mercy on our souls.

Here is the last movie, "Sarah's End": it's a monologue by Goggles and the proper ending for the story (script by me, ShephardReborn and Hikari). Plans for this ending have been around since June, when it was known as the True Ending Remake, and its production assets were recycled extensively to update the other cutscenes as well.

Tomorrow I'll start working on the red logs, a set of text-only logs which novelize the movies. The goal is to present the story more clearly and coherently, like presenting Sarah ahead of time. I'll keep you posted, suggestions and proofreading are welcome! :thumb:

I changed a scene after 4m30s, now you can see that Goggles was talking to Marie all along.

They are the updated "Infinite Memory Chips", a kind of quest item which unlocks movies. They're red, they play garbled audio and contain Goggles' thoughts... stashed away before being mindwiped. Let's say that after red pages and red seeds, I'm sending people after red logs! :thumb:

I really like the small tweaks made. Granted I'm not entely happy and I had explained in PM, but a case of 'I should have spoken up sooner' and 'I wish the VAs could come back to re-record.'

The added tweaks and the little musical cues are great. I'm glad you're doing this man. It really is a love letter to the community.

Re: SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0

So you're saying the reason the recent updates don't contain more dialogue is because the voice actors couldn't be bothered to record new lines? Hell, I would voice a character or two if I thought it could get the ball rolling.
Also, I have found all of the following different YouTube accounts xdiep has been using to post SSI videos: user/Matteo2137, user/xdiesp, channel/UCdelpCRenQdj_oxCDtfMN7Q , and channel/UCTMRvNCxAmk8kljuY2lgrEw . In case anyone wanted to see new or older footage for the mod, this is all of it.

Re: SS2 System Shock Infinite 2.0

Thanks! But it's nothing important, we'll just have to wait a bit more to voice the new Goggles logs. The one who disappeared is Marie's actress, :( who was supposed to talk  with the other npcs. I tried looking for replacements on TTLG, to no avail. But don't get angry with her: I myself had to go on hiatus last year, due to personal issues, and the mod always owes her a great deal. What we have to do now, is to finalize 2.0 with these new text logs and some more tests! :D
