Injection of New Sprites into System Shock

Is it possible to replace sprites from the first System Shock with any given editing tools available? I'm looking to see if weapon sprites, inventory icons for equipped weapons, and game text is possible to replace. I know it wouldn't be a simple drag-and-drop operation. Perhaps one of you has given it a try before.

And yes, I know, the Talon is probably more analogous to the Magnum 2100, but shush.

I want to say it's possible... Toxic Frog made some sort of an editor and he could swap models around at will but I dunno about textures.  I think it can be done.  Somebody else will have to elaborate on it though.

It's certainly possible to replace the sprites. But it will require some experimentation to see if it's possible to do so with larger versions. Further reading:
