Hi Kolya

Thanks for posting the tool to help us! I am running Vista 32 with realtek audio on a high spec machine. The tool fixes most problems for me and SS2 now runs but I only get music not audio logs or sound effects. I am really keen to replay SS2 again. Can you think of anything that may be repventing the audio from working? THx

mrbunda, you tried the "Audiologs Sound Fix" that is part of this tool? If the problem remains and you have the HOTU version, then you probably forgot to unpack the audio files. See the HOTU readme.

Thanks for trying to help me, Kolya. I have a shop bought copy (bought in UK). I have been trying for a good fews hours to get the SS2 to work now (keen to play;-) and still cant get it working. I did a clean install from CD and checked all the boxes on the Tool except the prepare to get mod working. Still get no audio excpet some music and a few really loud explosion sound effects.

Any help would be appreciated!

Before you start a game, go into the game Options, Audio, turn Hardware accel. on, 16 channels, EAX on. Make sure the positional sound bias slider is in the middle.

Did a clean install again and used the tool (ticked all options except get read for mod). Then loaded game and went to audio options. The EAX button is greyed out and set to off. The Hardware acceleration is set to off and I can highlight it but clicking does not set it to on. Audio channels are set to16 and I can change those to 4, 8 12 or 16. Ahh thanks for your help already but if you have any other ideas about whats going on i am very greatful!

Try installing the a3d drivers from here.
Please report if that helped solving the problem.

I right clicked on the setup file and clicked install. Still hasn't fixed the problem though:-( When I was fiddleing about earlier (I have done a clean installation since then) I noticed that if I tried to register the LGVID.AX codex manually I got an error message "DLL register server failed with error code 0x8007005". It doesnt give this message when running the Kolya 2.3 tool though-  is this anything to do with my problems perhaps?

Anyway very greatful for your time!

I take it you read the readme file that comes with A3D drivers, and by "setup file" you mean you rightclicked and installed a3d.inf. Have you tried deleting A3DAPI.DLL and A3D.DLL from your SS2 folder as well?

LGVID.AX handles video files for SS2. It's not a codec and I don't think that it's related to your problem.
In fact I'm pretty sure it's these drivers not working as they should.

Have you ever tried SS2 without the EAX fix of this tool?
It just occured to me that you may have never needed the EAX drivers from this tool at all and your own soundcard drivers would have sufficed. In this case deleting these drivers from the SS2 folder as mentioned above should solve the problem.

Also have a look here.

As far as I know, Vista does not support EAX at all.
I suggest upgrading to XP.

Vista:- To use EAX with older games that don't support OpenAL, you need to use Creative's ALchemy wrapper. Free for X-fi owners, but Audigy owners have to pay.

Does that even work with non-Creative soundcards?
