The ancient Greeks had no specific word for Blue...

On that same topic here is an interesting explanation on aeon.co that finds other aspects than just color in those Greek descriptions:

I feel like this is about a woman I never met, yet she'll leave. Fuck, that hurts!

In new research they plan to present at the USENIX Security conference on Thursday, a group of researchers from the University of Washington has shown for the first time that it’s possible to encode malicious software into physical strands of DNA, so that when a gene sequencer analyzes it the resulting data becomes a program that corrupts gene-sequencing software and takes control of the underlying computer.

Tonight I went through some of my old (late 90s - 2010) backup CDs and DVDs, from the days before portable hard drives were commonplace (for me anyway) I've found that many of said CDs and DVDs don't work anymore, mostly due to the CD/DVD rott issue. This issue is where spots on a CD or DVD rott through somehow (the rott is only viewable with the naked eye via holding said CD or DVD up to a light source where you'll notice light shining through spots here and there. Where the rott has set in, the data is lost forever.

This was an unforeseen defect unsuspected (to my knowledge) by the makers of these technologies, and is something not really present in cartridge based technologies. So an old Atari 2600 game cartridge from the 80s is far more likely to work than a CD or DVD from much more recent. I find that quite bizarre.

Along the way going through my backup CDs and DVDs I came across a saved video from youtube in it's early-ish days:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJzU3NjDikY

I'm a sucker for these kinds of videos.

A while ago I ripped all my CDs. Took a few weeks and yeah, there were a few that didn't work anymore. But only self-burned ones. The originals were all still intact IIRC. You could probably argue that turntable records last longer than cartridges. And clay tablets last longer than that. And Stone Henge...
The more complicated technology gets the more easily it degrades. The question at which point it becomes a case of diminishing returns isn't often raised. Encoding data as DNA would be a step back towards simplicity and longevity.

That's a cool video. Must have taken an awful lot of work to make but the result is great. :)

Too true.

Of my game cds + movie DVDs I've not had 1 yet that had the rott issue. Only seems to be present in the burned ones.

Where as on the cartridges end, I've got several super nintendo cartridges which have the "yellowing" effect on them. The yellowing much like the CD/DVD rott stuff is apparently due to the chemicals used in production. Unlike the CDs and DVDs though, the yellowing is more just a superficial appearance issue and has no effect on data storage. Plus there is home-made "fixes" for the yellowing like "Retro-brite" which I've seen featured on a few youtube shows which focus more on the retro end of the scale like "the 8-bit guy" etc, where you apply the mix and it removes the yellowing.

And that made no sense at all after watching.

2 guys were fighting, but then a guy hits a box (or wall?) and then the two guys fighting die. Huh?

Visually it looked good.

Well, it's a random scene from a japanese Arthouse-cult-movie about cyborgs. It's weird alright.  :cyborg:

I'd heard of the movie in passing + had seen short clips here and there, but never one of that length before. Very random movie.

Here's the song I talked about on ShockCon 2o17. Have listend to it countless times in nine years, searched the internet high and low and never could find matching lyrics that are not completely bonkers. My favourite must be "I'm like the wig of the old drug lord".

So, now it's your turn. I put some ? in but you basically could replace every line with ? and be just as close as we are now.
I would really like to have this one solved, so that one far away day on my deathbed I can say "Yeah, learned everything I wanted to know..uarghhhh"

There's a cover by Theophilus London with lyrics someone interpreted as:
I want to live like a breath to you
Let me out and do positive
All I want is to dance, electric lights
Let me see your body
I want to swim also, honey

I'm like a [?] after a [?]
Let me hear, send a fare, but not under the palm tree    :happyjoy:
They may have lost it

Ramabama

All I want is to rock your jolly hips
I do, it's still erotic
I do, it's still erotic

First thing I noticed was the bad quality. I don't know if it's from the original audio file or just the usual youtube bad quality.
I checked if this track is available on streaming services, but I had no luck. And I don't have the orignal vinyl, I checked on ebay, but there it's 50€. A bit too much for my taste.
Luckily they have their old albums available on their official website (evil direct link), and the audio is much clearer!
I'd like to download the file to filter out most of the "instrumental" parts but haven't figured out how to do it yet, and it's late for me already. I'll check again tomorrow or when I have some time this week.

But just from a quick listen I can say you got some parts wrong.

You could also try to just friendly ask them for the lyrics :)

Lol, not sure I want to do the whole song, but think I got this part:

Let me hear, send a big banana, under a palm tree
Made of plastic

Banana-ba-na-na
Banana-ba-na-na
Banana-ba-na-na
Banana-ba-na-na

Made.. of... plas...tic

Didn't get a hold of the sound file, but still did some attempt to it.
This is as far as I got

Where can I find it? The link on the site points to the sadly defunct radioblogclub.

Thanks for your help. I like "electrony" and "hydraulic" but hate the "Banana-ba-na-na". Would kind of ruin the song if I had to think of banana every time I listen to it. But that's the risque in wanting to know the lyrics, I guess...

You could also try to just friendly ask them for the lyrics :)
Seems like there is no other way to 100 % certainty. If they were to respond, that would be amazing as they have other songs for which I can't even identify the language used besides the chorus.

You need to have flash activated, then you will see some player on there.

Did you send them an E-Mail?
And again, terrible quality on youtube, you can hardly make out the voice.

I don't understand much he sings. But even if I'm not of help here, I just wanted to say: I know the feeling very well. I once had a similar affair with Simon & Garfunkel's Poem on the Underground Wall. Which seems laughably today, because it's not that hard to understand. But back then my English wasn't very good, I only had a cassette tape recorded from vinyl and no internet. When I eventually got hold of the lyrics I wasn't disappointed. I still think they may be some of the best song lyrics ever written.
