A documentary about various parts of the human microbiome. This is also interesting for our discussion on potentially human like AI.

One of the few topics, I'm not sure I really want to know more about, tbh. I already do feel uncomfortable thinking about dust mites and barkflies (Psocodea) too much.

Well you shouldn't, the video makes the point very well that your microbes are good for you and how the modern diet, hygiene and antibiotics lead to many diseases specific to civilisation. It doesn't go much into the connection between gut bacteria and psychology, which is relatively new but well established, but makes other interesting points, eg evolutionary advantages we gained through retro-viruses, whose remnants make up 8% of our genome.
Basically you is never singular, you're a biome, a balanced collective of microorganisms. So don't feel afraid of your bros.

never thought of microorganisms as bros before.

Basically you is never singular, you're a biome, a balanced collective of microorganisms.

...so, The Many?  we're all just miniature versions of The Many?  that's a strange thought.

Stan Grewzell - "Odyssey"
https://darkdescent.bandcamp.com/album/odyssey

“When people left Earth to find a new place to live, it was the most ambitious and hopeful space flight project in human history - the last chance, the ultimate odyssey. The trouble weren’t all the technical difficulties, the limited resources or the undefined duration of the journey - it was the human mind:
What are the mental effects when you have no destination, when you live in a flying cage for generations, with only a few centimeters of steel between you and death? When the crew starts bickering over the course of the ship, when sabotage occurs, when creepy rumors and mistrust spread? When you start seeing… things?"

This is the soundtrack to that journey - an odyssey through nightmarish noises, dark techno and tripping hardcore. With just a handful of EPs since 2009, Stan Grewzell from Hamburg surely doesn’t rank among the fluent producers – albeit having carved his own niche with a specific sound setting him apart from other artists distinctly. Genre-defying, trippy and packing a proper punch, such are the qualities that have propelled his (few) tracks into a number of playlists already. Now it’s time to take off – and the odyssey...  more

Looks like we'll get coinhived on every other website soon. In other words, websites include a Javascript to mine cryptocurrency on your CPU. This basically means they use your power and hardware to create currency. If this is announced and accepted by the user it may be an alternative way of making money for websites than just ads. But often it's not.
Even if it's all legit, the coinhive wave that's likely to sweep over us means that everyone makes less money than they hoped for.
Either way, you may want to check your adblocker/scriptblocker to support blocking this when it is unwanted.

Thank the heavens for uBlock and NoScript, then. I haven't seen one of those scripts on any of the sites I frequent, so I would think this trend might be limited to more shady webpages I wouldn't want to visit anyway.
674519638e1a1
The current outrage is about websites including this generator without the user's consent, invisibly and autostarting. So you may not necessarily have noticed it.
674519638e29d
That should still be trivial to detect by both addons.

Just checked that ublock have a filter (uBlock Options => Tab: 3rd-party Filters => Checkbox: uBlock filters – Resource abuse).
Just remember to unblock sites that you would like to contribute to.

Someone on reddit says:

Since most of the mining scripts are not located on the website you are visiting , any addon which allow you to control "requests" can do the job.

I.e , uMatrix with default settings protected me without my knowledge when i went to some streaming website. It blocked requests to "coin-hive.com".. Be careful, uMatrix is for advanced users

Use an adblocker like Ublock Origin, they started lists to block mining too.

Noscript is a handy solution, but since you cant reasonably browse with javascript disabled nowadays, you will browse with Noscript blocking only "third party" scripts. Which in the end, provide the same "coin mining protection" than uMatrix.

Therefore, if the bad website starts to host the mining script on its own server, Noscript & uMatrix wont help in the first place

TLDR : uBlock origin with a list of know threats, Noscript / uMatrix for unknown threats

So basically using NoScript like always should do the trick too, right?
674519638e816
Well yeah, if you really want to browse without Javascript enabled, which isn't much fun.
It's not as easy as that redditor says, since coinhive started buying domains, so a simple domain block won't cut it. Also similar services are sure to spring up.
But I trust ublock that they can handle this.

I have been using NoScript for years now and granted the sites I visit regularly the necessary (handpicked) exceptions. With all the other ones, whenever I feel something isn't working right, I'll look at the list of blocked content and try to guess what is needed (usually not much) and give it a temporary go. Works alright for me.

EA shuts down Dead Space studio Visceral
According to EA executive vice president Patrick Söderlund, Visceral’s take on the Star Wars title would have been a “story-based, linear adventure game,” which the company has decided needed to be shifted toward a “broader experience.”

And this is why we can't have Aliens ever again. Because people make pudding cups of it.

That's pretty brutal. I know that Dead Space was certainly very far from being a perfect game, but it was the focus on action, coop and those stupid micro-transaction which brought the series down - things that certainly were not conceived by the designers. And now they're shutting the studio down completely  because they're suddenly not interested in publishing a "linear Star Wars adventure game". As if the customer base for such a game changed radically in the last few years...

yep, that's the EA we know and love (to hate).
674519638f32c
From what I heard about coinhive, currently it's not really an alternative to ads. The financial gain is just too slim, compared to ads. So the idea that you agree to some cryptomining and hence get spared the ads on a popular site seems unlikely right now.
Maybe website owners will tie the user's agreement to get some premium content. Or it could be something you do, to support that site. Either way, it's more like donating some extra change, not a way of paying for anything.

Normally I'm not a fan of Hip Hop, but this one I liked, even if the title has no relation to a certain game. Or maybe the AI is Shodan; being totally confused after the hacker removed her ethical constraints and Diego deleted evidential files...

murder, murder, murder, thats all i see
murdering, murdering, murdering everything
static, gunshots, laughin at me
sporadic, anxiety's faster than me
overlapping, floating trash in the sea
wearing masks, get the cash and i leave
can’t take back, lost tragically
i feel like metaknight, some days I’m kirby
i cannot see the light but i’m assuring
the crown may take my mind, can you wait for me
i’m morphin, contorting, and i cannot recognize
need to slow enjoy better times
i need to go screw on this head of mine
going to fly to those heaven lights
angels may dropout and i just may stray from light

i cannot savor mines
looking for saviors from day to night
they stole all my thoughts they yeah data mined
took me back to a time
where i hated i.
i’m a broken AI
can’t take it slow, gotta process life
pulling these strings, the choice is not mine
can i get control for i end up fried

they can steal, but they cannot change you
error, i am collapsing
and this might be fatal…
