Death Stranding - launch trailer

Launch for consoles that is. But it is coming to PCs too. Summer 2020 they say. In the meantime you can join your local DHL-team for some real glimpse into pre-christmas apocalypse.

There seems to be an interesting twist and it turns out that poor single parent Norman has to work two jobs now. Delivery man by day, Nokia technician by night. This game seems to be a meditation about the precarious living conditions of minimum wage workers.

I'm sure Hideo will make low income jobs look great again. And Herzog will eat his other shoe when he sees it.

Various real life disruptor cannons for taking down drones and disrupting wifi, GPS and cellular connections.
They look pretty cool, but honestly I'd prefer if this was sci-fi and not in the world we live in.

I'm kind of unimpressed - so if you have the drone in your sight, you can aim at it for a while and put in on the ground? you can do the same thing with an AK-47, instantly and for much cheaper. *plays the Lord of War intro song*

I bet they don't tell the soldiers about the health effects of firing that thing.

Using a gun isn't always an option, eg in a city. Also if the drone is suspected to carry any dangerous payload you wouldn't want to physically destroy it. Furthermore you can set up a system that automatically takes down any approaching drones without the danger of accidentally shooting at anything that moves.

Although Voodoo did inadvertently touch on something important.  We may now have the means of causing testicle cancer in approaching armies from a safe distance.  The value to national defense cannot be understated!

(drone mode/testicle mode...  sound like something for SS2)

yeah, they will die a painful death, ten years later.

I started playing Jedi Knight (Dark Forces 2) again after a few years of forced abstinence, because my JKE modded dgvoodoo setup had stopped working. This time I bought the game on GOG and modded it with jkgfxmod (which enables modern postprocessing and simplified modding), the neural graphics update (which is only so so) and JKGFX2019-v011 (which is a version of JKE that works with this modern setup, JKE provides excellent NPC models and weapon models).

And Jedi Knight is still such a delight. From the vertical architecture of Nar Shadaa to the situational adaptive classical music score, the speed with which you can run through levels, the clever secrets. It encourages the player to learn its twists and get into a flow of incredibly fun and satisfactory gameplay. Even the cutscenes hold up for the most part. Man, I love this game.

If only the original Dark Forces had such good mods behind it. Went to play it last week and man it looks dated. Doom looks better (likely due to the sourceports). And the controls gah. No proper mouse look or crosshairs. Its a shame as I adore that game.

Interesting hearing from the director perspective.

Am I the only one that saw the initial teaser thing for Death Stranding and 'These motherfuckers are laying the guilt trip on so thick I have absolutely zero fucks to give about this game. Fuck you.'

I don't know. I didn't feel guilty. But you may have more reason to. :awesome:

Me neither but I think I know what Hikari means. I think it boils down to that old debate whether it's appropriate for entertainment products to stimulate "negative" feelings or not. For me it's no question at all but I remember having such a (brief) discussion before on the topic of film making. Certainly had it elsewhere too.

Of course it's possible to appreciate serious themes and just feel that the emotionally heavy vibe the devs where obviously going for is just too much or inappropriately used in these particular cutscenes but I don't perceive it so myself.

That sounds like a debate you may have had with me. 😄

I think it's completely fine to stir negative emotions. Demon / Dark Souls uses that (frustration), Telltale's The Walking Dead series and The Witcher 3 uses it (sadness, dread).
