the System Shock Remake with its intentionally low-res textures for no good reason.
yes, but that's because SSR is pretty much a modern game, just with intentionally ugly textures. Prodeus is built around the idea of retro Doom4 from the ground up - that's why I don't mind.

ELECTRONICOS FANTASTiCOS! project has been reincarnating various retired consumer electronics as musical instruments such as Electric Fan Harp, CRT-TV Drums, Air Conditioner Harp etc. The band plays them by catching electromagnetic waves.

Just learned that Back To The Future-villain Biff Tannen was based on Donald Trump. At first I thought "But how did they know that he would...?" before I realized that Trump was notorious long before he was elected. Since this is news only to me someone already went and fixed this snippet of BTTF2.

Now that's interesting. Can see the connection. Love that movie, forever divided on whether it or the first one is the better movie.

yeah, the super death bros. they certainly had had their share of great time back in the day.

but I don't really mind this type of humor (or any kind of humor, really - I think you actually can gauge the level of progress a society has made based upon how much humor is allowed and accepted).

Yeah, these two mass murderers wouldn't have allowed you making fun of them. Much like wannabe dictators today.

yep, reminded me of an old joke - "comrade Stalin, what do you do in your free time?" "I collect jokes about myself." "Have you got many?" "Almost three gulags by now!"

the more things change, the more they stay the same.

The first one. Full stop.

Well each to their own. I see unique charms with both films. The first with the 50's stuff and setting, and bringing his family together, Doc Brown etc, but then the second one with it's future stuff, alternate timelines etc I really enjoy as well. Love both films.

Me too. It's only the 3rd BTTF that has a very slight drop in entertainment value for me because it's digging a bit too deep in western tropes. But it's still hugely enjoyable.

The 8-bit guy (who I've mentioned in this thread previously) put out a development video for a game he's been working on:

Thing is that it is designed for Commodore 64's, VIC-20's and Commodore PET's. Seeing a new game being developed for these systems in this day and age is super rare. Very interesting. Obviously nostalgia as well, as Commodore 64's were around when I was quite young. Back then I so badly wanted one, but my parents got me a VIC-20 instead, which at first was really annoying but then it got my started on learning programming (in basic), which started off my games dev lifelong passion. So not all bad :).

New games for perpetual fan favourite computers and consoles are quite common. The C64 and the ZX Spectrum, for example, see quite a few new releases by fans every year, almost all of which are free, and some of them are technically really good. There is a whole subculture of gaming based around emulation (and the use of real hardware, quite often) of classic computers and consoles. And some programmer don't just write games for these systems because they love the system (be it a ZX Spectrum, C64, Amstrad CPC, Megadrive, NES, Amiga, Atari ST, Atari 2600, etc), so much, but also because they like the challenge of writing for such limited hardware.

And programming for an older system became much less trouble in the mid 1990s onwards, due to cheap PCs, extremely good PC-based programming suites for different systems, and being able to test the games first on a PC using an emulator (especially if you used an emulator that included breakpoints and a decent monitor/disassembler). *Much* more convenient than using cassettes to store and test your Zeus-made* creations on a real ZX Spectrum, back in the 1980s.

I don't know about less popular systems, such as the VIC-20 and the PET, though, since I have no experience of either their real hardware, or emulation of them. I bet they do have their hardcore fans, though, and a small but thriving new software scene.

* Zeus was a very good Spectrum based assembler, very popular at the time, but of course it was impossible for such a program to have many of the features or convenience of PC-bases programming suites.

Due to Retro Gamer magazine, and the Retro Remakes forum that I used to frequent, I was aware of some of those communities. Though not those aiming at older machines. I can see the appeal though of making a game within limitations. Imo limitations can bring about the best games, since you make the most of what you have.

Same as you have communities dedicated to making levels and mods for old games.

I want the firing sound for this thing in SS2, but I have no idea where, if anywhere, it would be a good fit.

I think the ancient proverb "I'm too old for this shit" will cross my mind more frequent from year to year.

When I hear "virtual influencers" I'm out, faster than you can say pseudo-social relationship.

Well, I posted it because of the technical side but a "virtual influencer" explaining a "new kind of virtual influencer" feels like "The Making Of TeleTubbies Teenager Edition" to me. It's the kind of content that would feel right at home in a near future dystopy with satirical overtones.
