Atari is searching for the original programmer of an unreleased prototype game named Aquaventure that appeared in the mid 90s on a flea market, in order to finally release the game.

I dove into the Interplanetary File System (IPFS) for a bit. What I found is the future of the net - in a pram suit, playing with a blockchain.

- IPFS Desktop allows you to run your own node in the distributed IPFS network and access files from it
- IPFS Companion is a browser extension that helps to translate IPFS addresses for Chrome and Firefox (I think Brave can handle them on its own)
- IPFS Search is Google

What I found is that it's relatively easy to publish static files and even static websites to IPFS. Dynamic websites still seem some way off, although there are attempts at serverless distributed databases that would enable them (and a lot of other things).

But so far it seems to be mostly singular files floating around this network and that just isn't of much interest. Also I found the involvement with blockchains and NFTs quite disconcerting.

I really do believe that a fully distributed net is a great idea and the inevitable solution to a lot of problems that plague our internet, like surveillance and the monopolies of MSGoogleFacebookApple. But it may need to get picked up by one of them to fully kickstart into its own or its going to take a long time.

IPFS does look very cool, but I am skeptical of it for 2 main reasons:
1. By being peer to peer, the notion of "file deletion" is basically impossible. In a filesystem, this is completely unheard of. Obviously for certain applications, such as sharing content (especially of a less-than-legal-nature), this is basically perfect. But I can see it being extremely problematic for more serious uses, especially in business. I don't really see it taking off much as a result, for anything other than specific types of files.

2. The single global namespace scares me. It's very likely that the total file list will grow exponentially large and become unwieldy.

Also, an aside, anything associated with blockchain is inherently suspicious in my books. While it definitely has it's niche uses, blockchain is mostly used either as a way to run a scam by "banking on the future" by taking peoples money and trading off speculation, or it's used by businesses where it's not appropriate because they want to pretend that they are modern and aren't relying on a COBOL backend from the 1960s to manage all their users.

I was really looking forward to Atomic Heart a while back, but then it went silent for a long time, and I forgot about it. It's good to know that it's (probably) not vapourware, especially since at the moment the gaming scene is (to me, at least) largely just dull and lacklustre.

My god the audio mix in that trailer was terrible. I couldn't understand half of what not-GLaDOS was saying. Gameplay-wise, it looks like someone just threw Fallout, Bioshock, Wolfenstein, Prey, the terrible Will Smith version of I, Robot, and a bottle of vodka (yes the ENTIRE BOTTLE) into a blender.

One annoyance I can see in the trailer (Abermore), is with the card abilities you needing to wait till the animation plays out before it does the effect. They've taken a page from Night Dive there.
