Ok, I need a link to quell my morbid curiosity. PM if it's too embarrassing, or too dangerous.

As a result, many games (especially larger games) will have 30 manual installer parts, because they don't want to increase the size of their installer part files (for some reason), and they are often out of date as Voodoo said.

I'd imagine this is because they don't want any one segment to be larger than 4GB, because that's the limit of old FAT32 filesystems.

You could say no one would be using those any more, but this is Good Old Games, so it's not unreasonable to assume some of their users might be using ancient machines running Windows 98 or similar.  Plus, USB drives are often formatted FAT32.

I don't know for sure anymore (brain trying to delete the info as a defensive mechanism, probably), I think darkfate.ru had (or was linking) that stuff? google browser translate was enough to navigate it even back then, so I'm guessing there will be even less problem now.

or download one of the nooka-nooka mods of the modder that shall not be named from here, get the ucoz site link from the readme, and go straight to the viagra ad hell.

//ok maybe don't, we don't want to boost those download counts. pic attached.

For me, the best GTA's were around the GTA 3 to GTA: San Andreas era. Everything since has been a disappointment. Even GTA 5 (which was far superior to 4) was far too focused on the heist missions, which I found quite boring.
I didn't like GTA 4 and its more serious and "realistic" approach much either, also the vehicle handling was terrible. Definitely my least favourite of the bunch.

In my personal ranking it's probably followed by GTA 3, which certainly was an impressive transition from the previous 2D/top down-era but otherwise not that memorable to me.

Vice City and San Andreas on the other hand were both really great in their own ways.

I enjoyed GTA V a lot and it felt like a state of the art-update of many elements that made the franchise successfull. It did however lack a little bit of the colorful flavour of SA and VC that came with being set in very specific eras and subcultures. V felt (even) less focused and too current in some ways.

Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 trump them all.

People say this like it's some kind of truism but GTA has had the same core fundamental gameplay since GTA 3.

I think people are slowly realising that the core gameplay is bad and only like the old ones due to nostalgia from when they were younger.

The games have never been good. The core issues have been there since the beginning.

It reminds me of the people who like Call of Duty 4 but not "the modern ones". They are the same game, people need to stop deluding themselves.

I'd imagine this is because they don't want any one segment to be larger than 4GB, because that's the limit of old FAT32 filesystems.

They should at least offer the larger option, which is exactly what Steam backups do.

Also, USB drives nowadays should be using exFAT, which doesn't have the 4GB limit.

Well I can't speak for everyone else, but the main gameplay loop I quite liked. It's the added extras in later games + removal of good features that lowered it for me. Plus the music was excellent (VC and SA in particular) in the earlier games.

GTA 4 - Removed the RPG elements + customization (clothes, tattoo's and haircuts) added in GTA SA as well as purchasable properties and territory control, went for a more realistic approach, getting harassed by your brother to go bowling every 2 minutes was very annoying. Music sucked in this game compared to past entries with no memorable radio stations. Positives was the in-game internet, strip clubs and television shows.

GTA 5 - RPG elements partially back and purchaseable properties. Being able to switch characters on the fly was interesting though it made the game feel a bit disjointed. Great graphics. Too focussed on heist missions and needed more of the core gameplay loop of past games. Music again was average with nothing memorable present.

John Romero has recently released SIGIL II for the original Doom. I'm pretty sure a lot of people here have already heard of the original SIGIL's release some years ago, and for that matter have probably heard of SIGIL II's release as well. I'm hardly the biggest WAD player out there but I couldn't miss any of Romero's recent work for Doom and I have to say I've not been disappointed at all - it's a satisfyingly tough 9-level long episode (it's really hard on Ultra-Violence) that also feels fresh visually in spite of using few custom resources. As far as vanilla experiences go, it's great stuff.

Oh, by the way: the WAD is not compatible with conservative source ports such as Crispy Doom, but it's relatively easy to patch it to work on the latter - I can share the patched WAD if anyone is interested.

Blue Scuti Beats NES Tetris
"With rolling players theoretically playing forever or as long as the game can handle, this video features CTWC 2023 semi-finalist 13 year old Blue Scuti doing something that has never been done before. He LITERALLY BREAKS AND DEFEATS THE GAME!"

so I'm getting ad videos in my youtube feed now, about every 6th video, buy this car, date this chick, get a job as a delivery guy, try this toenail fungus medicine.

I think I want the infected cow hooves back.

Most youtube videos have been nothing but ads for a while now.

I used to watch a lot of game review/criticism type channels, but I found most of them started making more and more long-winded videos that weren't really saying anything, because if you go above 23 minutes you get put into a higher ad-revenue bracket.

So video after video was just word salad very slowly getting to a point that could have been reached in 20 seconds.

These new ads are just the ones you're noticing. The reality is that Youtube has been nothing but an ad platform for over a decade, with small nuggets of good content occasionally.

..so I'm outside, explaining that burning a pasta dish slightly is a perfectly valid way of food preparation used by Italians to a relative, thinking of spaghetti all'assassina.

I return home, facebook goes here is a spaghetti all'assassina recipe.

People who like infected cow hooves also like burnt spaghetti. Common knowledge.

I harbor no affection for hooves of any type. I even find marshmallows unfit for consumption.

but pasta is a good deal, though I have to admit I may be too liberal with its preparation methods sometimes - good thing there are no Italians around, they possibly would want to stab me.

avert thine eyes Italian friends, cheap noodle is getting rinsed with cold water now.

..old man's (mis)adventures with smartphones, continued - so I've caved in and let the phone be signed into a gmail account permanently. not the main one of course, just the backup account I use for file storage only. so now each time a moron finds an outdated link to a 10-year old TFix build and requests access, the phone beeps. I'm ecstatic.

Our tv is the first "smart tv" that we've owned. Had to sign in to Google account for Google Home. Quite good having access to all the apps and Youtube. Gave me a reason to actially turn the tv on beyond watching the news each day.

Now just wait for the ads to start showing up on your dashboard after a "critical security update".

I like the premise of smart TVs, being able to watch content from various internet sources easily. The problem is that everything with "Smart" in the name will eventually be used against you.

At my old place, I had a PC hooked up to my TV and did most things that way, so that I could use adblocker and such. But I get the appeal of the simplicity of just buying a TV, plugging it in, and having it all ready to go. Just be careful and make sure to always have a contingency plan for when the inevitable happens.

For sure. Personally just being able to watch Youtube on my tv is quite handy.

Only way I was able to do that prior was hooking up the old PS3, which came with a Youtube app.

getting a fair amount of "make me an editor" requests for files where it makes no sense for anyone to have full permissions (the Rebirthed cutscene, for example). ignoring them completely of course, but is this some kind of attack attempt, I wonder.
