"Science" isn't an adjective.

"Secure" is not a noun.

Triop Execs don't grammar good.

Yeah, I don't really like the look of the cameras either.   I actually tried adding some more detail but it looked wrong still. Perhaps I should abandon the red aperture and just have a black lense with a red LED.

SCP'd?

Also, glad you think the word deserves to play.  It's a real honor to be able to remake this great game.

Has anyone tested the to see if the last bullet in the magazine does more damage?

there is something to test somewhere?

He propably is talking about the original game.

ah. it's been a while since I've played the first game (my machine is too slow for anything but shlink to be playable, and 640*480 just isn't cutting it on a vuxga monitor), mostly because I'm, you know, getting ready for Citadel.

anyway, pretty sure some SS1 veteran will be able to answer that.

Hey, I uploaded my blend file for the level geometry. It's WIP in the sense that its not polished, checked, and spit-shined, but hey, thought you might like to see it.

Do you load the whole level at once into the game?

The blend file has each level as a separate object. The whole level is loaded at start (just a few tens of mb, which is nothing in terms of modern memory, even for cell phones) but the levels that the player(s) are not currently on will be disabled to not affect performance.  We will see how well it works. Unity is pretty flexible and others have done this method.

Ah, I see.

Did you actually build the whole blend file yourself or did you use some kind of converter from the original game?
I know there was something like that floating around.

I built it all by hand in Jackhammer, then converted it.

Geeze, there are perfect exports of the SS1 levels to Dark engine format freely available. With NewDark's abillity to export the worldrep to a 3D model, could have saved yourself a ton of work.

Haha, ya if only I knew I was going to change engines.  Darkplaces is bsp based, not 3d model based, so I had to make it by hand. I was already done when I decided to change engines, so I just converted it from bsp.  But, I now know every single inch of the station, which is satisfying. I even found secret rooms I had never seen before.

Now I know why it looks so odd.

Yield arms, SystemShock.org. Must you pull this shit every time? Use constructive criticism.

JosiahJack, I'd like to comment on that video, but there are no superlatives powerful enough! What you've done looks so atmospheric and System Shock-ish, retaining the atmosphere even though the visuals are higher quality. You've really done what we (well, I, and I assume everyone else) were hoping for, and not lost the feel of the original game.

Thanks for the video, it's obvious that the time is being well spent on the project.

If you are talking about me. I didn't express any criticism.

@JosiahJack
Inside Blender you can open the properties (hotkey N) and somewhere at the top you have the entry "Lens". When you set it to 250 you zoom in on the geometry. I find this easier to work with than the standard setting.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out.

Thanks!  Keeping the feel of the original while enhancing the look is exactly what I am going for.

Are you planning to use PBR at all? Because I'd be interested in remaking the SS1 tiles in PBR like this medical wall panel I did a few months ago:

I'm keeping the original aesthetic when I remake these textures into meshes with textures.
