Wonder if anyone ever put together a list with links of all the SS remake attempts there has been. Be a VERY long list.
SS2K will use Pie In The Sky's GCS3D engine. You, in the back, shut up. Look at it this way: System Shock used a kludgey tile-and-sprite-based 3D DOS engine. GCS3D is a kludgey tile-and-sprite-based 3D DX8 engine. (In all fairness, GCS3D can support true 3D objects.) GCS3D also has a workable inventory system, vital for any decent remake of System Shock. A couple of notes: I've built System Shock's Medical level in both UnrealEd and Worldcraft, but the simple sector-editor of GCS3D is far easier and more effective than either, at least in building System Shock geometry. Besides, I've been playing with GCS for years, so I know how to get the most out of the engine. Trust me on this one -- I won't be able to recreate everything in System Shock, but I'll come close.
Shock System: The Duke Nukem' Level (2.81 Mb)- Hard to believe? YES! It's true! Instead of the hacker, play a brainless thug running around blowing stuff up! This Duke Nukem' level is an almost exact replica of level 1 (the medical level) of System Shock. I've never looked at it (I've never played Duke Nukem'... HA!) so I can't tell you if it's any good or not.. (But I bet it is...8-D) It was donated to us by Andre "Troop" Frey. If you wish to use it, unzip it into an empty folder, and copy the files into your Duke Nukem' directory. (version 1.3 only) Use "shocksys.bat" to play. He suggests reading shocksys.txt before you begin however.
Is it morbid to think that list needs it's own thread?
My first thought was: "If only they didn't all start with Medical, maybe someone could patch it together to some crazy multi-engine Frankenstein."
