Yea, it would be nice to have Polito as a seperate model rather than something that looks like "female crew member #26".

I wonder if HQ droid will make the casket itself look bad :P

Here's an update on the texture btw:

And more importantly, does anyone bother? And why?

Some layman opinion/suggestions about how it looks now
model:
- a bit to muscular (shoulders and arms)
- the traingular shape on his chest is a bit more bony in the original

texture:
- move the triop logo to the left on the droids chest. I like that it is embed in the new version though. Maybe you can do the same for the original position?
- arms and feet could be a bit closer to the original
- his pelvis looks like he has papermache shorts/diaper on. Maybe get rid of the crotch-optimum logo?
- the eye-texture is cool, but a bit to much steampunk in my opinion (To organic? Makes me think of Thief). Maybe you could make a version closer to the original for crazy purits like me?

Else its fine with me. Just thinking about how the droid sound effects are wasted. It has so many lines like "Stop that please" etc. but most of the time you won't hear them, because the droid dies so quickly...

it depends on your gameplay style as well - if you tend to run for higher ground, you will be hearing those extra barks quite a lot.

I agree with unn, also the head could be less blocky at the edges.

Yeah, you want to reduce the overall width of the droid as much as possible to lessen the probability that when it passes through a narrow doorway or hallway, it's arms/shoulders don't clip through the door frame or hallway corners, or even other large static objects for that matter, some of which is evidenced in RocketMan's video in his OP. Don't make it look bulimic, but not a hulking menacing battle droid either - it's a "dainty" protocol droid, predominantly performing light duties.

It also needs to believably fit into its transport container.

The hallway to Polito's office and the office itself looks like id Tech Engine 4 quality.
Or it looks CryEngine 3 quality. Which... is exactly what it is.

I'm all for getting rid of the crotch-optimum (I lawl'd hard) sign.  Too many of the damn things anyway AND it gets distorted during the walk sequence which draws attention to the stretchy polygons even though it's supposed to be metal.  I'll do my best to shrink the Popeye arms.  The center triop logo.... ehhhh that could be tricky and I'm hesitant to screw with that one.  I'll give it a shot and see how it turns out.  Beveling the head a bit more should be easy to pull off.  I kinda like the eyes as they are now personally, even if they're not 100% stock.  3.5/5 isn't bad though right? ;)

You mean the optimum-crotch.  :stroke:

Concerning the eyes, keep the three red lenses and consider removing the two blue ones. More compact/concise. Or maybe one large red, one small red and one small blue (brighter)? Or change the one small blue lens to green (more noticeable)?

OK, here's the ticket, a large bright red, a small bright yellow (implies a flashlight) and a small bright green (implies all functions OK - is a blinking green asking too much  ).

The sci-fi justification for the current setup was that a robot would use various EM bands to "see" in.  It might have a laser range-finder, an infrared camera and illuminator, a normal camera in the visible spectrum, microwave/RF for discerning metallic objects, etc.  Some of these lenses wouldn't be visibly lit and they wouldn't all be red.  Going all technicolor might look pretty but would also seem a bit busy.  Admittedly I don't know how many lenses is the right amount.  The original droid had way less.  We don't have to copy it exactly though, just make sure we don't compromise the aesthetic.

I would advise against multicoloured eyes lest he'll look like a traffic light/disco bot.

If you look closely there is a second blue eye, but it's like 2 pixels wide on the texture

You're right. I should have looked at the image again. I think the current red and blue eyes of the new model are cool. I was talking about this traffic light setup:
OK, here's the ticket, a large bright red, a small bright yellow (implies a flashlight) and a small bright green (implies all functions OK - is a blinking green asking too much  ).

Excellent work Grosnus, especially on the cables that make up his upper body under the plating. Also a great improvement on  the colouring. :thumb:
