I was wondering, has anyone perhaps compiled a list of all statistical data about System Shock? Modify/Repair/Hack costs/probabilities given what is the object, weapons damage as skill and other factors function, weapon degradation formula etc. I am especial interested in the formula for projectile weapons (I found the melee one on ttlg).

I'm not a minmax player and therfore don't care too much about stats. That's why there ain't many stats collected on SBF yet.
A few weapon stats are here, Psi skills are here and that's about it.

I welcome everyone who wants to expand this topic in a more systematic way.

ok, thanks

btw., is there perhaps something similiar for ADaoB?

Well there's the changes log. It's quite extensive and usually lists before and after values.

I checked it, but still couldn't find the stuff I mentioned. Oh well :) I saw in Pop's mod topic that there are whole bunch of numbers listed, where did he extrapolate them from?

Anyone knows the formula for weapon degradation? I'm just wondering: Are weapons breaking FASTER when they are already at say 3 than when they were at 7?

In SS2 Prima Guide I found this:
"Pistol:
Wear (degradation): 1% per shot
once condition dros to "1" chance of breaking
grows from 0.5% to 5% per shot"

Does that mean the longer I have the weapon the faster it breaks? Or is there a simple randomizer between 0,5% and 5%, and the average is at 1%?

There's a very detailed breakdown of the game's stats at:

click on the (180k !) 'Analysis Guide' FAQ file.

Thank you! There, for the pistol I find the same text, just with a few more words:

Breakability:  At durability 1.0, will have a .5% chance of breaking,
increasing linearly to a 5% chance of breaking at
durability 0.0.  Loses .1 durability per shot.

Finally I realized I had mixed up chance of breaking with degradation. So the answer is: Degradation 1% per shot always, but chance of breaking existing and increasing at a certain point. So for me that means: Don't waste too much maintenance tools, just keep the weapon, in this case the pistol, at 2 or higher.

The best way to check stuff like that is to learn a bit of ShockEd. Then you can look into your current (modded) gamesys instead of some ancient guide which refers to the vanilla game.

Yes, but the guide's author is still to be commended on such a deep, informative (and well written) write up on the game's mechanics. It's well worth reading, and isn't 'dry' and boring, as it might well have been if someone else had written it.

Personally, I'm no fan of game walkthroughs, as to me they are mostly pointless. I mean, why read them instead of playing the game properly and exploring the game and using your intelligence and skill to solve the game? They do have some point though, as you can use them to get past a part of the game that has flummoxed you, I suppose.

But I do really like game guides that dissect the game mechanics and detail important in-game statistics or logic. Guides such as Perfect Dark's extremely detailed weapon statistic by FAQ Hu Man Bing (http://www.gamefaqs.com/n64/198275-perfect-dark/faqs), or the guide to cutting out large parts of Half-Life 2 for speed runners (the Hints and Tips FAQ at http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/914642-half-life-2/faqs) are very interesting, I think.
