7 is still supported, just as usable and doesn't look like a fisher price toy

7 is a nice OS under the hood and I use it in a dual-boot scenario but interacting with any OS past XP is a circuitous, cumbersome pain in the ass.  It's like if Nintendo were to remove the A and B buttons from their NES controller, add 50 more ambiguously labelled ones that were all linked in a big circle to the others without actually making the player jump, and require you to press 3 buttons minimum to do anything.  And every time they release a new piece of shit, they come to their senses and fix "some" of what they did in the next release.  That's why 7 was a fix for Vista and the upcoming 10 is going to be a fix for the horrendous happy tiled cell phone nightmare we call 8.  In my industry, I only ever see 7 and XP on engineering machines because they're the only ones that get the job done... and 7, only because at some point you have to give up on a 14 yr old OS, no matter how good it was.  At home however, I'm still in denial.

While I agree with you, I feel the same way about Windows 8 (which I found to be counter-intuitive from the start, but all things take time.) However it's definitely been long enough that you should stop using Windows XP immediately. Aside from being a general security concern, it's doubtful that your computer will be able to perform as well simply because of the limitations of the OS.

You're right but I suppose my wanting to push the envelope is evidence of how much I hate the other ones.  I mean, for most things, XP works perfectly fine.  I just have to stop using IE altogether and stay away from the porn sites on Firefox.

But XP is being used for alot of VM boxes so the most rational reason is speed....

Windows 7 is faster in almost all situations except where the hardware is just as ancient as XP is.

Yeah used for a load of vm's and small business systems.
But the security is crap.

Apparently win 10 is going to be a reboot on the efficiency of XP with modern security and tighter features.
So i'm hopeful.

XP boots brutally fast on a ssd on newer hardware and flies.
But using it online today is very messy.

Extract to your SS2 directory and overwrite the original dll. Works with v2.4 and v2.43.

Hi Altimor,
just finished modding [1] my GOG SS2 installation and it kept crashing when launched.
Luckily the first thing I tried was reverting the lgvid.dll back to the original as it was the only file changed outside the SS2 Blue Mod Manager and the game started OK after that.
Then I checked my Shock2.exe (attached) and it is version 2.45 (18FEB2016).
Is this an easy fix or a bother? I would like to try your mouse tweak.

couldn't quite figure what you are asking, or what are you trying to say, but one way or another, this mod is deprecated as 2.45 supports raw mouse input natively (check the documentation). will make a note in the first post.
