When you start the game, after you choose career type, there are a few doors with latin inscriptions on them. Anyone knows what it means?

Can you give an example maybe? I don't remember those.

That's a SHTUP thing. One of the original UNN door textures had what appeared to be small type on them, but it was utterly illegible. So I Googled around until I found a Latin expression which was about the right length and sort of made sense for the UNN. The text reads:

"Vix ulla tam iniqua pax, quin bello vel equissimo sit potior"

Which translates to:

"Scarcely is there any peace so unjust that it is better than even the fairest war"

I can't help but think that there should be a 'not' in there somewhere, but there isn't.  I guess either the Romans like their wars, or I'm too dense to undestand that sentence. :)

It is apparently spelled 'aequissimo', though.

"Scarcely".

And oops about the spelling error. Must have been spelled wrong in the source I copied it from.

I still understand that as "There is definitely not ever a peace so unjust that it is better than even the fairest war.", which doesn't make sense to me.  I would have assumed "There is definitely not ever a peace so unjust that it is worse than even the fairest war."

Thanks, and I agree with the just above logically, but considering UNN's nature, it could be the opposite.

You guys may be on to something. I'm finding some conflicting translations of that phrase.

It's from Erasmus from Rotterdam's text: "Querela pacis". I'm sure there are trustworthy translations around.

Wasn't it Tacitus?
In a loading screen of Rome: Total War there's a quote from him saying: "A bad peace is worse than war." Or something like that.
