Just the textures i edit?

That solved it, apart from the texture on the back of the weapon has gone black.

Very good job. Pass me the textures, I'll deal with the see-through spot!  :thumb:

We'll have to make this in 2 steps: check if the functionalities of the gun work (they do for me) and I'll add the custom text and graphics at a second time. The gun can be found in Medsci, behind the hackable door beside the trainer units: its ammo is dropped by hybrids. You can also spawn them with the commands:

summon_obj marinegun
summon_obj marineammo

You need to start a new game, to find the gun in Medsci: also, I have the bad feeling something in the map might have broken... please, take a look around if everything is ok. The gun has 2 firemodes, which spawn a following or a patrolling marine. Would you like to write a short description for the gun and the ammo, which can be read if one puts the "?" mark on them? If so, remember the gun would be a "Portable QBR Machine" while the ammo are "Quantum Entanglement Samples".

PM sent :awesome:
I will never understand people who do this. It's like those people at work who wander over to your desk to let you know that they just sent you an email.

ZyonBane Was there really a point to throw criticism my way?

Xdiesp I'll check it out asap and think of a good description.

and here is the string folder.

Edit: Did a quick test on a new game, the weapon works great, hybrids drop the ammo, The marines follow and patrol. I ran around medsci1 and didn't crash. enemies appeared to spawn as normal and cameras activated as normal.

Some details:

- Hybrids currently have a 20% chance of dropping "quantum entanglement samples". Do you want a different chance? Also, we need a text description for those.

- I didn't give the portable QBR machine any minimum requirements, like stats and skills. It doesn't even lose durability. How would you like them? To make an example: heavy weapons 2, research 2, loses 1 durability point per revive.

I actuelly think the example stats you posted would be fitting, definitely needs a skill in research due to it being a complicated weapon.

20% chance seems fair, not all hybrids would be suitable subjects.

Good for "heavy weapons 2, research 2, loses 1 durability point per revive" then. I think this one's cool, to retain a semblance of realism and still have mindless fun. But if I were to outbalance its OPness, I would make it a Research 6 item. Note that we could still have a version of the gun for fun with no requirements, spawned in the console, and another one for reals in Medsci.

Yeah, I think having a optional fun version would be pretty cool. I agree with having a higher research requirement since it is a strange and possibly dangerous weapon if used by someone with no scientific training.

How are the textures by the way?

Here's the new version, try it out for the usual test run. We should be mostly done. About the textures, I think the colors are right but it could still use some detail that got lost in the white: but it's no big deal, change them according to your tastes. I mix and matched your descriptions with the wiki article, and wrote this:

marinegun:"Quantum Bio-Reconstruction Machines are safety devices, used to scan and preserve the genetic and physical information of a specimen in critical medical condition. Portable versions of the device also exist, for use by TriOptimum specialists during battlefield retrieval missions, or in high-tier health insurance plans."

marineammo:"Quantum Entanglement samples are compact storage devices, used to identify an organism's chroniton footprint and effectively teleport it across the space-time continuum by simple means of quantum entanglement."

Wow, that description is far better. I'll experiment some more with the textures and let you know how it comes out.

I've noticed that the icon in the new version isn't appearing and when you click on it, the QBR vanishes from the inventory, could be on my end.

I also did a very basic reskin of the male crew member to appear like the crew from Van Braun Ops deck.

Try again with this one, the icon should be fine now. Don't bother reskinning the marines, there are already multiple colors we can use: red, yellow, green, blu, purple, dark military green. See which one should be the male one, and which the female!

Yep, the icon works fine and i tested the features of the weapon and they work fine, How about red uniforms for the female crew (like Janice Polito's photo) and perhaps dark military green for the male crew?.

Re: SS2 Marines mod

Is the QBR mod's shock2.gam an extended version of SCP beta 1's, and QBR's files need to replace the ones in your SCP folder to use them both?
Re: SS2 Marines mod
67437de3a9398
Morgwin: changed the marine uniforms and also the sample's icon, check if you like them! (and if everything else still works)

Mirrorman95: the mod is compatible with SCP, but you have to load it after the latter. (no need to replace the files themselves) :thumb:

if it uses SCP gamesys, then it requires SCP (as SCP gamesys, maps and resources cannot be separated without negative side effects). the proper way of installing would be to load both with BMM and making sure Marines has higher priority.  BMM will complain about conflicts, but it's ok in this case.

also, do keep track of the gamesys changes you make (maybe attach the exports to the first post), remember, each time SCP is updated, you will have to update the Marines gamesys as well.

I can teach Morgwin the basics, so he can keep developing the mod himself and keep it up to date!  :thumb:

The uniforms seem great and everything else seems to be working as intended.
Re: SS2 Marines mod
67437de3a9a1b
Very cool work you both. :thumb: I laughed a bit at the gender specific colour effects.

I got one request: Since we want to avoid users having to scavenge the whole thread to get the latest version, the first post should hold the (current) stable version of the mod. Any work-in-progress versions in the rest of the thread should have an expire time set.
Re: SS2 Marines mod
67437de3a9b32
Morgwin: are the tests all right, no more changes or fixes? Would you like to write a readme? I think we should call this Morgwin's Portable QBR Machine.

Re: SS2 Marines mod
67437de3a9c99
suggestion: instead of using custom marine models, use regular marines with weapon detailattachment. this would make further modding easier - a Rebirth version would be doable just via dml, for example.
