discussions can get heated, and there is nothing wrong with that - but when things turn to just insults, then it's time to chill for a bit. in that post, your vocabulary has degraded a bit too much, so you have received some chill time. skip the profanity, and you can argue with anyone about anything 'till kingdom come.

there are many ways to show people your displeasure without calling them names.

We can all act like ZylonBane and everything will be golden? I really don't think anybody would want that.
I called xdiesp a faggot, which was obviously used figuratively as I have no way in knowing xdiesp's sexual orientation, and I really don't care which way he swings either. Now if we were to look at ZylonBane's charming posts, we have his treatment of the one System Shocked as one recent example, and I quote:

I'd almost feel sorry for him if he wasn't such a pain in the ass. The kid clearly has issues. OCD, delusions of grandeur, narcissism, bipolar disorder, antisocial personality disorder, anosognosia... lord only knows what else. Sane people don't act the way he acts.

But oh no, I said a swearsies figuratively as I was fed up with xdiesp's provocations.

if you inspect those posts closely, you might come to the very same conclusions. you may not like what's been said, but you might find difficult proving it's not accurate.

anyway, just stick with an occasional fuck and its derivates and all will be good.

You know that's not fair on System Shocked. Not to mention people are often very different in real life social situations as they are online. For example, I seriously doubt ZylonBane is the intolerant sociopath we know him to be anywhere outside the digital realm.

Everybody suffers from varying degrees of mental entropy anyhow. ZylonBane is very obviously no exception.
Can we just keep things civil?

real life is cruel. why should the virtual one be any different?

anyway, he is fully aware that his posts are annoying (extremely, to most people), and he wasn't wiling to trim things down despite being repeatedly asked to do so. any occasional flak he'll get for that, he had coming, and will have to cope with it.

The amount of energy that some people choose to invest in being hyperventilating drama queens is truly incomprehensible to me.

Civilization & morality.

Part of the idea is to surpass the default cruel, unfair state of nature. We've really come a long way, although things still are far from perfect. These days if you're born severely handicapped both mentally and physically you have relatively great odds at survival and care, at least in the first world. Before the concepts of civilization and morality, few had a chance.

Another aspect is simply that the incivility gets in the way of progress, such as scaring off newcomers that could over time grow into talented modders. I said it a long time ago and I'll say it again: fuck knows how many potentially fruitful newbies ZylonBane has chased off from here.

Ah, a personality trait of mine, although exaggerated (as usual coming from ZB). Well done. Indeed, I should just ignore the result of when you decide to invest time being a sociopath, which is daily as part of your routine. I will work on that. I'm not a drama queen (I'm calling for civility, for instance) but lack self restraint when offended and spend too much time giving a crap, which is a waste.

The question you're avoiding there is, how many blithering idiots ZylonBane has chased off from here.  ;)

been around for about five years now, I'm very sure that out of those few people that have arrived here with the intention to mod stuff, none were scared away by anyone (even that guy who was enhancing the textures in mspaint) - Dark can manage to do that just fine, all by itself.

and yes, idiots/assholes have a pretty short half-life over here (there have been instances of people coming here with "fix my fuxking game, I paid like ten bucks for it", and yes, they have been sent home crying), and I'm perfectly fine with that - having a place where I DON'T have to deal with them is a refreshing change.

Looks like this thread has morphed into..."How would you rebalance people's social skills on SystemShock.org"

Ideally, it is best to encourage others to continue with their quality efforts, by giving them a jolt of positive energy when earned and deserved, for the benefit of retention...at the same time, rejecting the lesser undesirable elements that threaten to dilute higher quality content, which diminishes the perceived value of the domain.

Balance = Positive feedback for useful/quality content/projects + Negative feedback for useless/substandard content/projects

Would it be possible for us to make these mods without throwing shit at one another? That would be pretty cool
