Hello, I'm dropping in here to inquire about your 'Texture Memory' Fix.  I've been trying to re-play SS2 but after I got it and tried a No-CD / safe_texture_manager / read a billion pages of the ''xp'' forum / 5 reinstalls  I came across this. This is my problem at the moment; I'd have Win 95 or Win 98 Compatibility on (Other compats AND no compat does not work) and i'd get into the game.... Upon finishing the loading sequence the screen would go black and hang, and i'd get the ''end now   hungapp etc''

I saw on your program the Texture Memory fix which is in direct relation if not IS the problem so I tried to install it and it only but It said 0.0KB and nothing installed... I shrugged and opened the game to discover it was still hanging. Do I have to knab the entire tab of those fixes in order to get that one or is something wrong here? Eh, just confused right now. The hanging is driving me nuts

Turn off compatibility modes and use the SS2 Tool to install the "HT Fix".

It's now crashing before loading the main menu after doing that.

What are you system specs?
Specifically, graphics card and driver version.

Latest nvidia drivers,  XFX 8800 GTS, 2 gigs DDR2, C2D E6600  (yes one core is disabled after opening and process > high)

That's probably your problem right there.  The latest nVidia drivers (169.xx) break a lot of games, including Thief 2, SS2, Doom3 and Half-Life.

I cant downgrade the drivers because I have a 8800GT and they dont have anything but the 169.xx drivers for it. I've tried it on another computer that has the intel 945 video card (onboard). It has the same problem.

The problem is that it gets through the cutscenes and everything ok and it loads the first level (going to the recruiting center) the screen stays black and nothing happens, no guy talking saying "Welcome to the recruiting center" or anything. Just black. I've tried everything under the sun. All the stuff mentioned on the ttgl forums, your tool here (which is quite cool, and would be more so if it fixed my problem).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry to say I have the same shitty problem

Freshly bought GeForce 8800GTS 512mb card. No System Shock 2 for me.

1. Installed original cd.
2. Used the Tools "patching up" feature.
3. Installed ModManager.

It just tells me an error has occured and "Do I want to tell Microsoft about the problem?".
Sigh...

Nope, the 163.xx drivers dont support the GT

Would you share how do you make SS2 work?
I have a similar setup to yours 8800GTS with Omega 169.21.
SS3 patch 2.03 and if I run it the menus go pink colors and crash and if I set compatibility to Win98 it black screens after loading screen on new game creation.

I have the same problem... 
I have a EVGA 8800GT 512MB. I tried everything, but when I start the game (from the menu) I get a black screen and audio stops...
I've tried every patch combination, but nothing worked...

If someone can help...

Whenever I go to load up the game via the Modmanager (with both SHTUP and Rebirth the complimented version installed), the game gets to the menu (except the menu is pink) and then it crashes. All I did with the .zip files of SHTUP and Rebirth was change them to .ss2mod and double click to load them in the Modmanager. Did I forget to do something?

Well you should activate the mods that you want to use in the Modmanager, but first you want to get rid of that crashing problem.
What game version do you use, eg is it from the CD, if so did you patch it, or is it from HOTU?
Did you check if the game crashes before you installed the Modmanager?

I activated them both. I have the original game on CD (just bought it used this weekend for $10, so I was excited for that  ). I first installed the game, then installed the official patch, then installed the SS2 mod tool, and then the SS2 Modmanager. I was able to run the game originally through the .exe, but I noticed that the textures weren't updated so I exited out. I should also note that when I loaded up the game through the normal .exe (after installing the patch) that there wasn't a multiplayer option in the menu.

I've got an 8800 gts with, I think, the 169.21s or the release before that. Thanks for your help! I really want to get this game working.

Unfortunately there are known problems with running SS2 on that card.

Now that is a huge bummer. I could downgrade to older drivers, seeing as I have the older 8800 gts (640 MB version). Is it just the 169.xx drivers that don't work, or is it the 8800 gts in general? Once again, thanks for your help.

Hi, I wanted to throw myself into the thread as I'm having the same problems: trying to play System Shock 2 (first timer, and I'm pretty excited), GeForce 8800 GTS with 169.21 drivers, try to install but it all goes pink and crashes. Anyone out there have any additional advice from what I've read here?

Ah gotcha. Well I go ahead and install the old drivers, give DDfix a try, and hope for the best. I've been really excited to play SS2 and now that I've completed SS, I'm more eager than ever. Thanks for the help!
