They will need to reach past the hardcore fanbase of the shock franchise. However even so they will need us come time to actually show the game off so they get word of mouth and the hype train rolling. They know we can sink them if we play our cards right. We can spread so much ugly press it won't be something they can sweep under the rug. However we can also help fill in the gaps in advertising, stumping around to make sure that what little budget they have for advertising gets maximized.

It is ex looking glass, that got SHODAN's voice actress, and... this is the best reasonable shot we have at this happening because NightDive is run by a guy that's a franchise fan.

Stay positive until such time that the explosion of suck has already happened. Not before. I will cheerfully grab pitchforks and add my own voice screaming if this ends up sucking. However so long as it is moddable and the dialog is THERE... even if the end result isn't quite what we want it can be fixed. We just need to keep our criticisms focused and explain our positions re UI, Gameplay, and other changes in case they lurk here. We want them to know our minds. Not some argument between twelve year olds screaming at how they fucked OP's mom.

I think you're vastly overestimating the importance of this small community. And I have zero interest in "spreading ugly press". Why would anyone want that?
I just want to play the game and then discuss it here with you. But I am not assuming that it is going to get tailored to my or your opinion. In fact I'd rather get surprised by an innovative entry in the series.

Some words of advice from my experience with Bioshock: TTLG was a much bigger community back then. And it largely rejected Bioshock. Still that game became a huge success. So much about small gaming community powers to make or break a game.

The more important lesson though is not to become too personally invested in someone else's business decisions. Even if they may want that. Keep your critical distance.
If the game is good in the end you can still enjoy it. And if it isn't you won't be as disappointed.

My one hope is my potato of a box I just ordered a new video card for will be able to handle it, or at the very least I'll have my house in order enough to get a better box.
