sorry for the long title, but I figure there's a better chance of getting help if I name specifically what I want. As for the questions, I have several. Running the HOTU version of SS2 on Windows XP SP3 with ADoaB, Rebirth Complemented, and SHTUP.

1a. Can someone please post a screenshot of the Rebirth Complemented midwife? That was listed as one of the major changes, but I don't really know what it looks like. Based on what I've seen in the file itself, though:
1b. How can I swap the midwife models of the Complemented version with the original? I've seen the original midwife, and frankly it's not scary in the slightest. I vastly prefer the feeling of corrupted humanity (or tarnished beauty if you choose to look at it like that) from the Rebirth Beta, rather than some weird skeleton thing. And by prefer, I mean that it scares the crap out of me.
2. Also, what's the exact code to place in the user.bnd to reduce the rate of weapon degradation? I only want to reduce it by 10-25%, but the way things currently are, my weapons will all shatter before I run out of ammo, and I guess I'm not quite tactical enough to deal with both strict ammo conservation and this too.  :dropsdead:
3. Thirdly, my window minimizes before each cutscene, which lags me and always causes me to miss the first ten seconds or so. Is there any way to fix this? It's not a major problem, but still irks me.
4. Finally, I tried setting my resolution to 1600x1200, but when I booted up my file I was told that the chosen resolution was not supported. This strikes me as odd, as I run it at 1280x1024 on a 19in monitor with no problems at all and was looking for a bit of an extra graphical boost  :)
5. This one didn't really fit, but is there a high-res hand skin and possibly weapons as well? I've seen a few, but all I want is a graphics change, not a complete overhaul of the item (although I did like the ones I saw). This doesn't bother me so much, except that when I pull my wrench back for a charged-up strike, I'm confronted with this blurry, hideous specimen of deformity that makes me feel less human than the Hybrid  :p.

Thanks in advance for your help; I really love this game and am glad to see that it still has a thriving online community.

1a. It looks like the original midwife with a somewhat higher poly body.
1b. Get Rebirth Complemented as well as the older Rebirth beta01 and swap the midwife textures. For more information on how to proceed, see SS2 Modding mechanics & compatibilities although it's fairly self-explanatory.
2. Read the patch readme (readmep.wri in your install dir). Also here.
3. Not sure about that one. But see the SS2 Videos / Cutscenes Guide if you haven't done so already.
4. 1600x1200 is possible. Use the SS2 Tool to set it up. The thread also explains how to write the necessary line yourself.
5. The hand model is not separate from the gun. But we do have two wrenches and several other high poly weapons.

Thanks immensely. :)

Also, I remember the question that I had forgotten earlier; are there any drawbacks to spawning items using the console? I read on the TTLG forums that it could corrupt the game somehow; I don't intend to mess with scripted events or get items before I'm supposed to, I just want to spawn some Hybrids so that I can work on my melee combat. Are there any glitches or drawbacks that I should be aware of? I've read here that the wrench should be used as often as possible, but my dodging/counterattacking skills aren't quite up to par.

Thanks again.

You better train your skills then, because - yes - summoning items or anything else can corrupt your game to an unwinnable state. The thing is that save games are basically level files written to your save folder in the way you left them. So once you got a corrupted save there's no way of going back but to an earlier save.

Remember: Summoning stuff is for fun. Keep it separate from your real efforts to win the game.

Alright, then, so if I do want to summon something, I'd be best off doing it in a seperate saved game, right?

I think the best recourse, then, is to go back to the first level and try to set off an alarm.

Thank you a fourth time. :D

Yeah, set off an alarm and you'll get lots of hybrids to work on. This is also known as hybrid farming because of the items you can loot from their cold lifeless corpses. :D
You can always stop the alarm by frobbing (right click) a security terminal. No need to hack it.

For the midwife thing, is it just the stretched-out body and head textures (scarier than the actual model o_O) that I need to copy? Otherwise, the 1600x1200 doesn't seem to work, which is almost definetely my computer's faulty display driver at work again, and everything else seems to be fine. Just have to remember not to smash the next security camera I find.

Thanks yet again :D

If I remember correctly it's just two textures that are plausibly named (midw...something). So yes, that should be all you need.

Ah, done.

Just out of curiousity, how does the midwife attack?

Also the security camera trick worked beautifully; I just have to work on those pesky monkeys now :shifty:

By killing you.

She has 2 attacks: (spoilers below)
1. She shoots a green lazer at you.
2. She beats you to death with her fist. (this can be avoided by crouching and hitting her with a wrench in the crotch....)

Depends on how you patched the game. If you used the SS2Tool then you got Zygo's motiondb.bin which makes this copout impossible.

Basically I think it's part of the game to find out how enemies attack and adapt to it. Hence my terse answer.

Oh, okay. Sorry.

I guess I might as well use this thread again, this time for a glitch. Upon returning through the Science Bulkhead after retrieving the R&D card, in the room where you first see the face of XERXES, there are two pipe hybrids. One is normal, but the other is impossible to hit with any weapon. I clip right through him while trying to get in a wrench hit, and both pistol bullets and shotgun slugs go right through him (literally) . However, he still does damage. What should I do?

Chandler isn't completely wrong. You should leave the level through a bulkhead and then re-enter it. That will fix the bug.

Hm. On the fifth instance of loading and trying again, it worked. I saved again after killing him, just in case, but thanks for the tip. If I encounter another such problem, now I know how to deal with it. :)
