I suppose I should try to grab the backer beta, since I should be eligible for it at the tier I backed. At the very least it can sit proudly next to Underworld Ascendant in my Steam library.

I've not tried the beta, but I was wondering it it (including whatever final tweaks and changes NDS might make in the short while between now and the full release) is worthy of a final, gold release, from a technical point of view? Obviously there will be some bugs left unfixed on release day, same as with most other commercial games nowadays, but is the beta at least in a fit state for release, as regards non-crashing, non-losing saves, non-corrupting saves, non-crashing to desktop then refusing to run unless you edit or delete a .CFG file, etc?

We're not going to have to explain what "beta" means, are we?
6745445fb2b3d
Sigh. You can be really tedious at times you know.

My point was that I (who haven't tried the beta) was wondering if the beta (a beta released less than a month before the final release date) did look good enough for release, albeit with any reasonable post beta-fixes (which is why I said "(including whatever final tweaks and changes NDS might make in the short while between now and the full release)"), or if the beta had instead demonstrated any problems that made you (anyone who played the beta) think that the game still had real technical problems that would likely cause NDS to put back the game's release date again.

Okay so "yes" then.

They didn't call it a beta just for funsies. If what they put out there for backers was near good enough to actually be the final release, they would have called it the release candidate.

You're essentially asking "Is the beta not actually a beta"?

No. No it is not.

And I very much doubt this dumpster fire is going to release in a month.

Seems pretty finished to me.

There are still some things which annoy me (over-pixelated textures, bad intro, bland or missing music, immersion-breaking cyborg surgeons, slowing down the player while playing equip/charge/etc. animations), but they're not going to fix those.

After playing through the first three levels (Medical, Research, Reactor), I can't think of anything major that they'll need to fix.

There are a few things from the beta I can't seem to find

The grenade launcher and gamepig have been shown in footage before but I haven't found them anywhere

The minigame, cyberspace log, and extra time pickups all appear in cyberspace but they don't seem to do anything

Executive has some doors that say "Door opened remotely" which implied they can be opened and one room seems to appear on mini map, but I can't find any way to open them.

Edit: I did find the grenade launcher, it was in storage on a ledge

Well, guys, I pre-ordered the game. Any game I pre-order always ends up being shit or dissapointing (Amnesia Rebirth, for example). So, if you people need more confirmation on how this game will perform upon launch, this is it.

Apparently the Laser Rapier colors randomize for each one you find on each playthrough

So far I know of Blue, Purple, Green, Orange, etc

IDK what others

I assume red and others, but have yet to test it

ZylonBaneWell that is a strong reaction for some color randomization

In the complete absence of any in-game justification for such a feature, I think it's an entirely appropriate reaction.

Just the devs yet again throwing in some nonsensical "cool" thing with zero regard for whether it actually makes any sense.

ZylonBaneAll I am saying is that there are bigger things to be upset about than some colors

Tho perhaps their focus is debatable idk

Lmao, I suppose if one must be angry then it just helps to be angry at the right things but not at everything

Lol fair, I just think that some details don't matter and some things do

Getting ALL the details right is the difference between a genre-defining game that's fondly remembered for decades, and... this.

Oh Come on, you know all Details matter.

I mean fair, I just meant that some changes or details don't affect things much, while others do, it depends on the context.

Some details affect a lot, others very little

Also I may be the youngest person here, IDK how old anyone else is, but I am 24

This guy makes a lot of good points about the floaty combat and the over-detailed environments...

Some thoughts on this:

I mostly miss the music, but there are other things too

Spending a bit longer looking for items and pressing buttons didn't bother me tho, I can wait a few secs

Weapon sounds are an interesting point but it's not something I actively notice much and is only a part of the game, yeah the original had more memorable sfx overall I'd say but it's a minor thing admittedly

Detail wise I also don't mind the added detail and didn't find it harder and doesn't make the levels any harder to navigate

IDK, it just seems like out of all the things to mention (art, music, lighting, etc) he brings up small things that are minor
