We may not be the friendliest bunch but it's not like all newbies are met this way. If someone comes along with quality stuff the tone is much different (see ACC, Vurt, Mercurius et al). Of course there's the problem that people sometimes need time to develop their skills and we tend to accept only professional work.

System isn't a newbie. The door he also made with Cheburator900 had similar problems like the new trashcan (deviating from the original design in questionable ways). But when someone is willing to put work into these old games I think we owe them constructive criticism. That being said, I thought ZB's comment was mildly funny, but it would have been better placed in the moderator board.

ultimately, it's all pointless - as I've said before, I really, really don't see anyone here changing for the sake of someone else. might as well just accept that things are what they are.
You're right. It's like trying to get blood out of a stone; not an inch of yield. You'll be there every time to proclaim there's no point in anything and call it a day.

For what it's worth, there were indeed private messages exchanged between a number of individuals. Most had seen the earlier threads and concluded there wasn't any point in trying and subsequently disappeared.

Proceed as normal, I guess. I'm resting my case.

Aren't you being a bit overly dramatic considering that someone insulted someone's virtual waste bin?

it's kind of what Aurora does. nothing wrong with that.

well, that's slightly unfortunate, but if they themselves deemed their work not solid enough to survive some criticism, then it's quite safe to say that nothing of value has been lost.

to make it short and simple, "I have started to work on stuff, here is what I've got so far, help me making it better" YES, and "I made a thing, adore me because I've spent time on it" NO.

I realise it comes across like an overreaction, but let's say the bin thing was more of a catalyst.

I don't want to repeat myself, so here, have a read again: https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=8736.msg101630#msg101630

well, yes, no reason to have that discussion again then.

I think the main thing is that if System was not offended by any remarks said in this thread (as I'm assuming from his lack of posts on the matter) then that is what matters.

And yet, 100% of the controversy has been discussed by other members, which I think is a credit to our mirror neurons.  People tend to  care vicariously to varying degrees and on that spectrum there are those who end up caring more than the target himself.

...but I'm just rambling.  I agree the bickering has run its course.
