Why doesn't this work in multiplayer? My mate always turns into a box of peas after a while......
He has made the game mod ready and succesfully installed the mod and it works on singleplayer, but whenever we go to Multiplayer he turns into a box of peas.......

That's a feature not a bug...

Seriously, there are no player models in this mod, so it's not likely to turn people into pea boxes. Besides I've seen others play MP with this mod very recently and they had no such problem.
So I guess what you have there is a mod conflict or simply a setup problem.

I mean they are the old model for a while but then as they magically disconnect they turn into pea boxes.

But after he disconnects he is still in the game and he can see me but i can't see him.

A player disconnects he/she should leave behind a "Personal Effects Box" containing his/her belongings. Try frobbing the pea box.
Once a player has disconnected the game needs to be stopped, reconnected and a save game must be loaded. You cannot (re-)join a running game.

Yes i'm aware of that. I don't think you understood the situation correctly.

The game starts normally and as soon as we get to the actual game my mate disconnects, THIS ONLY SHOWS ON MY SCREEN but he can still play alright and see me but i can't see him. So he doesn't actaully disconnect, just dissappears.....

That happens sometimes, generally because your connection isn't working properly.
Example: your friend's firewall is not allowing incoming connections, or the appropriate ports are not forwarded (if playing online without using Hamachi).
