Topic: SS2 HOTU Robots are Invisible Read 3021 times

I'm running the HOTU version on Vista 32bit with everything all patched up with the Rebirth mod and all that.  I got everything working fine except robots are invisible for some reason.  They're there since I can hear them and they attack me, but their models don't appear.

The training robots from the tutorial weren't there but when I shot where they were supposed to be they still seemed to be there physically, I just couldn't see them.

Just now as I got out of R&D there was what sounded like a robot at the door to maintenance but I couldn't see it until after I killed it and it's pieces suddenly appeared.

Sounds very much like a failure while making the game mod ready.

I did everything listed there to make the game mod ready.  I've even used the SS2 Tool multiple times just to see if it's working right.

Should I do the manual thing or is there a mod that can fix this problem?

You can manually check where your .crf files are located and make sure that path is given in install.cfg at resname_base line (among the other paths).

Explain that a little better please?

The path to my crf files is c:\Program Files\sysshock2\patch

My install.cfg file says the following:

cd_path E:\
install_path .
language english
resname_base .
load_path .
script_module_path .
movie_path .\cutscenes

How do I edit this in order to fix my problem?

If you have a folder named "RES" that contains files of the type xxxxxxx.CRF
Code: [Select]
resname_base RES
If these CRF-files are in the main install folder, then that wasn't your problem.

I do not have a folder called "RES."  The CRF files are in a folder called "patch."  I'll try entering that next to "resname_base."

Hmm, it seems that some of the CRF files are in the main install folder, but there was also a separate folder called "patch" that had some crf files in it.

There are files in the install folder marked ".RES" but no folder with that name.

What else could be the problem?

It would seem that the CRFs haven't been merged.
On a new install: Use "Patching Up" and "Getting mod ready" from the SS2Tool.

How do I keep my game saves?

Backup the folders niftily called "save_xx" + the "current" folder.
Optional: Save your keybinds in the game and then backup the "binds" folder.

You may also try to pull this on your existing install, but deactivate all mods in the modmanager before you do.

I don't have anything in the modmanager.

I just put in the rebirth mod and the wrench mod because that weapon didn't work when I first installed the game.  Neither of those required me to use the modmanager.

....and is there supposed to be a link there because that last line underlines but doesn't have one.

If your wrench was invisible when you installed rebirth you clearly hadn't made the game mod ready. And the modmanager, while not necessary is a mighty good idea to use.
I think you best start over with a fresh install.

Not sure what line you mean.

When I copy the "mesh" folder over from rebirth to the main install folder, do I take its contents out into the main install folder or leave the "mesh" folder in there?

Just tried a fresh install, made it mod-ready and THEN put in the rebirth mod.  Robots and wrench are still invisible.

Okay, I just removed the Rebirth mod and that seems to have been what the problem was.  For some reason I can't install the rebirth mod without it screwing up certain character models.  I'll bring the question over to whatever thread you have for that.

Thanks for the thought but don't. Thousands of people have used rebirth without this problem. So it's clearly not specific to rebirth.
Either you have a screwy version of SS2 or something went wrong while making the game mod ready again.

The mesh folder should be copied, not it's contents.

Please don't double post, modify your existing post if no one has answered yet.

Maybe I got an incomplete version of rebirth or something.  The one I got was the complemented version and I think I downloaded it from here (not sure).  I think I'll manage without Rebirth until I figure something out.

Maybe you should finally TRY to use Modmanager for all that. You know it's there especially for those who do not manage to make it without screwing up. Everything you need is already on this site.
