//mod edit: to make the story short, guy posted a music mod, and completely freaked out after being informed that the archive needs to have a proper file structure, removed the link and took off.

The tracks are pretty nice but the folder/file name structure are problematic. The installation instructions refer to the DataPermanentMods folder which has been out of commission for quite a while now. My hope is that someone will pick this up and update it to current mod standards.

What is the problem? The mod is perfect working. I play with GoG version and copy the files that folder. It's not complicated. It's work at me. Read the "read me" file!

I installed and use this gam version: GOG - setup_system_shock2_2.2.0.10

Tha "DataPermanentMods" folder there is in the main directory maybe this release is already patched to mod ready version. I don't know what up with another releases for example steam or retail. Sorry! I wrote in the description too that "you need to patch tjhe game to mod ready ->visible the DataPermanentMods folder.

not really a problem, more like a recommended way of doing things - basically, a regular user should not tamper with the configuration files as that is prone to errors, and just load any mod desired via the modmanager after patching up.

it just means the zip with the mod should not contain any extra subfolders (so \SND2\ is ok, \NRWmusicmod\SND2\ is not), and the readme should not instruct people to edit stuff manually (and just reference the modmanager, or SS2tool). we can repack the mod, but we only do that if the author is unavailable.

On request of Gameborg himself I deleted his account.

It might be interesting context for some that I was the one who introduced the "DataPermanentMods" folder at a time when we didn't have a mod manager. It found it's way into commercial distributions like other things that originated on this forum.
But we kept on progressing and creating better game builds with more flexibility. It's not without irony that someone would get pissed today when I tell them this modding technique isn't up to date any more.

also, checking whether a newly posted mod is safe/ready to use in the current SS2 mod ecosystem before moving it to the mods subforum is standard procedure, just like asking the author to fix the mod up in case an issue is found. this is not us being disrespectful, it's simply common sense - this place is not Fallout Nexus, we have standards here.

At least in terms of mods. Our humour standards though are nothing to write home about... 

Anyway, Gameborg, in case you read this, I still got your mod. If you agree I will make it compatible with the mod manager, without changing anything on the mod itself. Just give me a holler sometime. Or not. Your call.

To be fair, he wasn't offended by our humour, but the idea that his mod wasn't perfect as it is. Which had nothing to do with the mod itself, just with the file structure! I still don't get why he got so offended. I didn't even drop pants this time.
