I think I like FiveFingerDiscount's midwife better than the original.. but I never really get a close look at the original model because I usually fought them at distance (quite logically :P). I've desperately been trying to find a screenshot of the original model but without luck. Has anyone got one?

EDIT: Finally found a screenshot of the old midwife - as a bonus on the same image as the rebirth midwife! http://www.moddb.com/mods/3329/system-shock-rebirthhigh-poly-pack/images/16548/exampel-screen3#imagebox - Overall I must say that I like this one better than the vanilla rebirth midwife model.

I would still be curious to see how the complemented midwife looks though. Because the original model texture is still very good, it's just the model that's so damn low poly. There's not enough screenshots in the compemented rebirth thread hmmm.. :D

There are no screenshots in the rebirth thread for a reason. I think that your first encounter with a midwife should be ... a surprise.

You could just add the picture as a link with a spoiler warning, not thumbnail? Oh well.. I'm still in doubt actually. I think I'll just leave the midwife as is for when I give the game out to my friends..

You know you could just send your friends to this site. With a vanilla SS2 they can install the mods they like.
Please don't start giving out prepackages. It only leads to problems for us and the people that get a prepackage.
Because sooner or later something goes wrong, or they want to do something differently and then they come here and ask for help without any idea about what they have there or how it works. And we won't know either. So the first thing we will have to tell them, will be to get a decent copy.

He's not so technically proficient though he could probably figure it all out by spending asking a lot of questions here. But I can't see how he would be able to assess which mods are best for him if he have never played the game before. But I think it would be a good idea to not preinstall all the mods but give him the tools, mods and a readme text file with mod descriptions on a seperate disc (or the same disc if I can figure out how) and label mods "recommended" or optional and lastly throw a link to this website. Would that satisfy you as well? :D

If he's never played the game before all he needs is SHTUP. He'll never be able to learn which mods he likes if you spoon-feed them to him on his first game.
Besides this isn't about satisfying me. I do know a bit about how to get the best out of SS2 because I'm in this joint for some time. But I try to make reasonable, understandable points about how prepackages lead to problems for everyone, not just for me or us as a community, but for the people who use them as well. Because I've seen it happen many times now.
Your friend doesn't need to be technically proficient and maybe you're overestimating your own proficiency there, because all it really takes is the ability to read, and you can get away with the sort of game you like from this site. If that doesn't work out right away, I'll gladly help your friend just as I helped you. And maybe I'll learn something about how to make this site better in the process.
We have descriptions for all mods here. Recommended mods are stickied to the top. So why do you want to copy this and put it on a CD that will soon get old, when the latest versions are always freely available here?

Can't see why anyone wouldn't wanna play with SHMUP as well under all circumstances? Also Tacticool's Weapons are IMO in the same category as SHTUP i.e. "same but better". Using these mods also needs SS2 tool fixes as well as MOD Manager. But what about ADaoB? I thought that it was pretty obligatory as well. I mean besides the bugs it fixes it's all about gameplay balance changes right? Well are there any controversial changes in this MOD? It seems almost everyone play with it, I did as well for my first playthrough and I didn't notice anything odd. It's just game balance and everyone seems to recommend it. Why not use it in the first runthrough?

How would you?

You seem to be keen on making your own little mod pack, however superflous. Since all mods, tools and descriptions are available here for free, I can't keep you from doing so. Isn't that ironic?
But whatever you do, your prepackage will be obsolete in half a year while this site will grow and be up to date. If you don't understand, maybe your friends will.

I think you are overestimating what I'm trying to do here. I will copy my original SS2 CD (so it will be a proper registered install) but add a folder with what IMO is:

Must-Have mods SS2 tool, mod-manager, SHTUP and SHMUP

Recommended mods: ADaoB, Tacticool Weapons, Arcaniac Weapons (for grenade launcher, laserpistol), RocketMan Weapons (for stasis field generator), Eldron Psi Amp, Mute Security Camera Bleeps).

And optional mods: Rebirth, FiveFingerDiscount Midwife, Hi-Resolution Player Models (for multiplayer, Arcaniac Weapons (for red pipewrench),  Flatliner AdvancedMod.

I will include a readme with a short description of each mod under the three mentioned categories + link for every mod to this website + additional links to this place for FAQ's etc. and also include the latest versions on the disc but note that's it's very important to check this site for updates for future users, which is restricted to a few of my closest friends as I'm not planning on distributing this thing. I won't preinstall anything but recommend that they check the added folder out.

Okay, thing is I've been dealing with people lately who packed their torrents here and then came up on mininova etc with "SS2 for winXP prepatched + premodded" and the like. Which really is a bit annoying. What you plan is fine of course. Have fun.
