The game looks really, really good, you guys.  :D I don't know how to thank you. I'm having a lot of fun. You should be very proud of yourselves.

What does the ND stand for in SHTUP-ND?

NewDark I'm guessing.

Source

The next release of SHTUP will be SHTUP-ND, which will be dependent on NewDark. It won't require SCP, but it will support it.

Yes. "ND" is also a play on "HD".

I thought it was a play on "stupendous".

No you didn't.

Why not? It's a very positive connotation. And now that I said it the seed is sown, millions will think like me. It's inevitable.

I don't believe I am "getting it" lol. Rage? The poster? Reminds me of some hidden pointless rooms in Deus Ex lol.

you probably weren't a gamer back in 1996, right?

I'm guessing by his passive-aggressive use of "lol" as punctuation that he's about 12.

26, actually.
Nope, in 1996 I was 9 and owned only a Sega Mega Drive.

..."lol".

Bit harsh, guys? I've been coming to this site ever since I discovered SHTUP beta 6 when it was first released. *sniffle*

EDIT: Mmmkay, I used lol twice in the same very short post. Just didn't wish to feel I was being harsh. I'm missing the point, I'd quite like that not to be the case.

then maybe it's time to google for genre-redefining first person shooters of 1996, then heading to GOG and filling in the gaps.

and yes, we are a bunch of grumpy old men.

Without Googling, that would undoubtedly have to be Quake. Which I've not played. Rage... made by same people?

Clutching at straws, here...

try something cheesier. and with less 3D acceleration.

Err... Duke Nukem 3D??

I still don't get it. Am I thinking the poster? Rage came oh so much later...

hail to the king, baby. but you would actually need to play the game to get the easter egg.

Bollocks to that.

I can't (I've tried) go back to any 3D game much older than SS2. That was a push. First game I ever played properly and loved was Deus Ex.

Right... back to SCP. Few questions:
1. Do the troubleshooting fixes mentioned in (I forget which one) either MOTHER or SS2 Technical Guide still apply to SCP (or more specifically the latest NewDark)? I wonder as I've just tried it on another machine with an ancient GPU (Radeon X1650 Series) and although it runs at 1080p (and looks awesome!) using Directx 9, its framerate is abysmal. The laptop I play on (Intel Mobile 4 Series Graphics) runs fine using directx 6 at my native of 1336x768.
By troubleshooting fixes I mean stuff like disabling adaptive AA etc.

Okay, that was one question.

Re: Re: SS2 Community Patch (SCP) Beta 1

yes, it does apply.

I'm running on x1950 most of the time, and not having any performance issues on 1920*1200, and that's with FSAA enabled (getting a bit slower when there is a ton of particle effects onscreen, but that's expected). do make sure that no bloom and hdr effects are enabled (ss2 tool enables them by default, so you might want to repatch and make sure the option is deselected). it might not be enough if the cpu is very slow though.

yeah, I can imagine that getting into the oldschool shooters might be tough if one has started with the fully accelerated 3D stuff as a kid, but you might want to give them a go - most of them do have source ports that will allow you to run at today's resolutions, and with fully working mouselook controls. and they are a heckton of fun.

Would ya give some recommendations to try? Aside from the obvious.

Cool, just been on other machine and after tweaking GPU settings, disabling bloom and switching to dx6 it runs like a dream. Always been way behind the times with tech (not usually with PCs, but financial struggles made it necessary to part with some kit) and have just got my first decent sized tv, and indeed my first full HD monitor so looking forward to replaying my favourites.

Just tried SS on the crumby laptop and it looks like it's gonna be fine with shlink. I'm a happy man!
